“A Sunset to Die For....”

The Hotel offers cocktails, dinner and seating from high on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific, and gives you perhaps the best views available in the area. The service is top shelp and the atmosphere gives you the feeling of a five star hotel, yet sitting in the middle of a rainforest mountain top. I truly would recommend it to anyone in the area, a must see.

“LOVED IT!”

We were very fortunate to snag this GORGEOUS location when it was offered on Groupon.com. We stayed during the rainy season, so the property was pretty quiet. We had 3 rooms between all of us and they were incredible. Not sure I'll ever get to stay in such a beautiful location again.

The service was impeccable and the food delicious. I loved the private beach, though the hike down was scary (take the shuttle!); wish we could've enjoyed it more.

I think that Caletas is a gem, hidden away atop a mountain behind some trees. If you look, you can see some amazing animals roaming around the property. If you stay, take advantage of all it has to offer.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Junior Superior Suite; I WANT TO LIVE THERE!

“beautiful place; mediocre food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

The place is gorgeous; though you have to walk far to your room. Parking is a bit difficult. No light outside door.
Breakfast option included 'hash browns'. Though I have not been to McDonald's, these would probably not have been out of place there. The thing was like an elongated hockey puck, bearing no resemblance to real hash browns (which I have enjoyed in Costa Rica), and drenched in oil. It appeared so artificial I am certain it arrived frozen. Why foist this on people?
Also, dreadful margherita. All sugar and no tequila flavor.
The full-wall mirror behind the bed, with graphics on it, looked straight out of the 80's.
Beautiful gardens and view. Far from ocean.

Room Tip: Closer to your car...? Light outside the door...?

“A bad experience in a nice place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Beware, if you want a luxury room in this hotel. It's a beautiful place, built on the theme of a 19th century banana plantation. It sits on the top of a mountain, surrounded by forests, toucans and fruit trees. The views are spectacular, of the ocean and the forest slopes.

However, we stayed in one of the most expensive rooms, with a bedroom the size of a studio apartment, a huge terrace overlooking the sea and the forest and an outdoor hot tub. The problem is that the buidling in which these rooms are located is a sound vibration chamber. You can hear every door closing, every conversation in the hallways, despite the fact that the rooms are on three different floors The stairways do not have doors and everything is lined with stone so sound bounces off every surface. Obviously, the room doors are not sound-sealed, which would solve the problem.

There were two couples on the floor above us who left their doors open and had loud conversations between the rooms for two nights in a row. We had to call the management several times on each of the nights we stayed there to stop the noise. The couples were a part of a wedding party from the States who had come down here for the weekend. Apparently, this is a common destination hotel for affairs, as it is one of the nicest in the area.

Let me add that the service is excellent, the food is suprisingly good for a small Central American country, and the amenities are very good. But we were out of the room most of the time exploring the region, and the major time we were in the room was for rest and sleep. For the money we were spending, and the problems we had, this was a terribe experience.

We were in room 85, in a building with 6-8 of these super luxury rooms. Be sure to check if there are any affairs at the hotel when you will be staying there, as the management apparently doesn't care about the noise their wealthier clients will make as long as they pay the freight for all the rooms they will pay for during the festivities.

Room Tip: Do not take a luxury room in the building containing Room 85.

Dear Friends, thank you very much for your review, i am pleased to know that you enjoyed your room. As you said its spacious and the view is so great !! We feel sorry about the noise you experienced during your stay, as we all agreed it is very hard to tell guests that are going to get married not to make noise the day before and the same day of the wedding.
I am very sorry about that situation, but still hope to see you again with us. Best regards
