The owners, Dennis & Steve are great guys. I have been to this place on 5 different trips to CR. I always look forward to returning. The last trip, tourism was a little slow and the town wasn't quite as lively. The surf was awesome and so was the weather. I can't wait to go back again and some more spearfishing. Heh Steve and Dennis, you guys rock !

I will preface this review by stating that unless you are a surfer or a college kid there is no reason for you to stop in Jaco. Keep driving to Manuel Antonio to the South, or Puntarenas to the North. It is a very busy, overly commercialized and touristy area. There is a KFC, Subway, Quiznos and Pizza Hut... need I say more ?" The surf is outstanding, so I understand why it is an attraction for the sport, however, if you are looking for culture, nature and beauty, keep on driving.

In terms of Hotel Nine, it is INCREDIBLY falsely portrayed on their website. I researched every hotel in the area, and thought I had stumbled upon a quaint, affordable beach front hotel. Needless to say my jaw dropped when we pulled up, as this is nothing more than a step up from a Motel 6. The pool is tiny, the rooms are sterile and boring, no charm, no character, and run down. What I thought was a great deal turned into an incredibly disappointing and overpriced stay. We only spent two nights in Jaco, but it was the worst two nights of our 10 day journey. Of the 5 hotels I had booked, all of which possessed great charm, character and personality, this one was by far the worst. Granted, it is the only beach front hotel in Jaco, and the staff was very friendly, but if you are looking for charm, authenticity, romance or slight luxury (and I mean SLIGHT) this is not it.

Great place / quiet location / good breakfast / clean

Because of the reviews I had read I thought it was going to be a great hotel. Well, for me it wasn,t.
The positives: the beach location is the best in Jaco, very clean and less crowded. Has a nice pool, restaurant and friendly staff.
The negatives: I stayed in room #1 and it had a water leakage in the bathroom under the sink, we found out the next morning when all the bathroom was flooded. The pillow cases smelled so terrible I had to sleep without pillows. There's only parking for 4 cars, we were #5 so we had to park behind a car and every time someone was going out we had to go move our car.
Maybe it was bad luck, but I just wouldn't risk going back, for $90 per night you can get a better place in Jaco.
