“Instant Tranquility”

This is our 4th trip to the Saladero Lodge. We love it! Instant relaxation. Take an easy shuttle flight into Puerto Jiménez or Golfito, and Harvey & Susan are very friendly and take care of the rest for your entire stay. They pick you up at the dock for a beautiful voyage along the coast to the secluded and safe Saladero Lodge. They have everything available to make your incredible adventure. You make your own adventure - ocean, river or jungle. This is true Costa Rica. Take the meal plan - their cooking is incredible! I enjoy the freedom of the kayak ventures on the peaceful Gulfo Dolce. No additional charge to use the kayaks and total freedom to use whenever you desire! Fishing is a great adventure - trigger fish, bonita, mackerel, pargo, giant rooster fish and jack crevalle. Lots of dolphins all around to enjoy. Lots of monkey and bird sounds everywhere. Accommodations are excellent, very comfortable and the beach house is incredibly spacious! The finished hardwoods are unbelievably beautiful throughout the rooms and dining area. Everything is well maintained and eco-friendly. The new outdoor secluded hot and cold shower is beautiful and lots of fun.
People ask, why go back to the same place 4 times? Experience the beauty and wonder at Saladero and the hospitality of Harvey and Susan and you will have no question in your minds. We have never had any problems on any of our trips. Find it on Google Earth and you will see how far away it is from all the roads and busy city life. Enjoy the peace and unspoiled natural beauty of the Saladero Lodge!

Room Tip: All rooms are great! The beach house is most convenient and very large and our favorite. The new Mar...

we camped for 3 nights in december. harvey and susan were great, so friendly! the food was fantastic, the coconut fresh and the hammock incredibly relaxing. we also made use of the kayaks to explore the mangroves and took long walks on the beach.

Room Tip: the camping area is along the beach protected by a seawall, with a tarp covered picnic table if you...

“wonderful place”

Well, what can we add to the other rave reviews about Saladero? It's all true: this place is absolutely wonderful, the location is stunning, the food superb (try the guacamole!) and Harvey and Susan are wonderful hosts who really made us feel at home at Saladero. We stayed at the Beach House for 4 nights in december 2011 and very much enjoyed it. Saladero offers lots of possibilities for kayaking, snorkeling, birdwatching or just enjoy the beautiful view over the Golfo Dulce. The boat/kayak trip up the Esquinas river was also very beautiful with impressive mangrove forest.

For birdwatchers: although Saladero doesn't have an extensive trail system like some other Costa Rican forest lodges, the short forest trail was quite productive and we saw some excellent birds here like great tinamou, marbled wood-quail, ruddy quail-dove, golden-crowned spadebill, several antbird species etc. The garden is visited by fiery-billed aracari and of course the scarlet macaws. There was also a Tayra walking around that showed itself very well on a few occasions - absolutely amazing!

All in all, a wonderful place and very highly recommended!

“A dream”

The highlight of our 3 weeks family trip around Costa Rica were the 4 days at Saladero Lodge. We were happy to stay close to the phantastic nature, between the rainforest and the ocean with dolphins playing in front of us during lunch. We were lazy in the hammock and active by canoeing, snorkeling, fishing, hiking etc. We appreciated very much to recharge energies after all this activities thanks to the tasty meals with local flavors prepared by Paulina, Susan and Harvey and consumed together with them and the other guests. The beach house is furnished with much taste, very spacious and airy over the ocean. The sunsets there are overwhelming.

Saladero Lodge is very well equipped in all details and offers sustainable comfort adeguate to the remote site and offers even some luxury like cold beer and ice. Harvey and Susan are open minded friendly hosts and have created together with the family of Paulina a really unique place.

“Sleeping In The Canopy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I stayed with my wife for 4 nights in the treehouse and had a fantasic time. It felt like being part of the rainforest listening to the birdcalls and watching troops of whitefaced monkeys pass by within 40 feet of the porch and pose for photos. Margit got good photos of the scarlet macaws perched on the porch railing. The grounds are beautiful to stroll with the sounds of howler monkeys not far off. The food was fantsticwith greatvariety prepared by Harvey, Susan and Pauline. My only regret was that we were not able to stay longer.

Room Tip: The treehouse is great for couples with great privacy but be aware it is a steep set of stairs to ge...
