“pura vida!!!”

Amatierra- love of the earth is the perfect name for this gem of a
retreat. Tucked away high up in the hills overlooking a vast lush
jungle filled with wildlife and exotic sounds is the setting for this
beautiful ecological paradise. Coming from a filthy noisy concrete
jungle, this was just what my husband and I needed to really get away
from it all and focus on ourselves and each other. It was also very
healing to focus on the beauty of the natural world and all its hidden
treasures. Our vacation was a nice balance/ mixture between
relaxation, reading on the hammock or by the pool, yoga while monkeys
watched us from the trees, meditation at dusk, massages and energy
work with days of adventure (zip-lining, beach, nature walks through
the rainforest and gorgeous waterfalls). The food was very healthy and
delicious! The owners Bob and Jill created a warm and friendly
environment for their guests and definitely attract interesting and
creative people. We had great conversations with folks we met and lots
of musical evenings with different artists visiting the retreat. With
Jill at the piano or playing her guitar, the place was filled with
music, laughter and an energy that can't be described in words- you'll
just have to experience it for yourself! You will thank yourself for the gift of
this heavenly place on earth. Pura Vida!

“Finding Peace in Costa Rica”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I booked my stay with Ama Tierra last-minute and thankfully Jill and Bob (the owners) had room for me in their lovely retreat. The second I stepped on to the tranquil property I felt totally comfortable and at ease. This feeling of peace and quiet stayed with me for the remainder of my stay in Costa Rica.

First of all, the property is beautiful and the views are some of the most beautiful in the area, really breathtaking. I'm also a vegetarian and I felt like a spoiled princess with all of delicious meals that were prepared by the chefs, one of whom used to be a chef for Whole Foods. It was a vegetarian's dream, specially catered meals to fit my dietary needs, and really well-rounded as well. The desserts were absolutely divine - the Tres Leche cake was spectacular!

The spa is also amazing, The masseuse Isabella has magic hands, I was so completely relaxed. if you're looking for a remote getaway in the forest, this is your place. You don't even have to leave the property if being a homebody is more your thing. However, I did a couple of tours - one being a nature hike through the nearby Nation Park with a guide named Victor. Super funny and informative. He has an impressive keen sense of hearing and sight to show us all of the animals/insects around us. I also spent the day at a horse ranch with the owners Marsha and Mark and that was amazing as well. The horses weren't raised to be riden, but to communicate with on a very intimate level, a very special and unique experience.

Oh, and the studio...the STUDIO! One of the best parts of Ama Tierra is their incredible yoga studio. The photos don't do it justice, this is just a magical place you MUST see in person, anyone who has any degree of appreciation for beauty and yoga will absolutely fall in love with it. With a 180-degree view of the forest and surrounding mountains, this is the perfect place to find your inner zen (from beginners to instructors), this is the perfect place to practice yoga. It will always have a very special place in my heart, an experience I will always remember.

I HIGHLY recommend Ama Tierra if you're going to be in Costa Rica, even if it's just for a few days. It'll be well worth your time! Jill and Bob, thank you so much!

Room Tip: I stayed in Vino, which had a really great energy, but all of the rooms are similar.

“Fantastic Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

If you are looking to get away, relax and really unwind this is the place. Wonderful setting, food and service. This is not your typical getaway place. I had a wonderful massage followed by a great lunch and sat in the sun by the pool.....listening to macaws and other rainforest creatures. Who needs anything more?

“A Perfect Costa Rica Vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

A perfect Costa Rica setting to sit back, relax and let the sounds of nature surround us and let the atmosphere fill our minds.
Yoga to start the day, breakfast on the patio overlooking the rainforest. A book by the pool, while watching the
wildlife, birds and butterflies play around. There was time for walks around the organic garden and down to the river
to see more of the property's natural beauty. An afternoon spa treatment to hold us over until dinner.
It was a perfect spot for relaxation and to be catered to, by the coolest Innkeepers ever.

Looking to re-connect with yourself and nature? Ama Tierra is for you! Jill and Bob Ruttenberg are the greatest hosts I've ever had. You will eat three incredible healthy meals per day, do yoga, hike, see waterfalls, go to the beach, etc.. all this while saring the site with other interesting intellectual guests. They take care of eveything for you.. best place to stay in Costa Rica!

Room Tip: I like the isolated cabin by the hiking trails.
