“Perfect Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights during our honeymoon in September 2010. It is a small property with private bungalows hidden in beautiful landscaping. The staff at the hotel was wonderful! Our goal was to find a vacation spot where we could relax and enjoy the surroundings and not have to do the planning. We would let the front desk know what we wanted to do and they would arrange everything for us. We could even pay for the excursions and be picked up right at the bungalows. It is close enough to town that if you wanted to walk you can, or the hotel will call a taxi. The bungalow itself was clean and cozy. The beds do have insect netting which we didn't find necessary as the whole bungalow was screened in. There is also a mini fridge in the room so you can go to the local store to purchase cold drinks instead of depending on restaurants all the time. One day our hot water wasn't working. I told the front desk before heading to the beach (which is across the street) and it was fixed when we returned an hour later. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and I miss the coffee! We rarely saw other guests (except for breakfast time) so it was almost like we had the place to ourselves. My only critique is that the pool was not super clean, although clean enough for us to use. My husband loved it here so much that I am having a hard time convincing him to travel to other countries for our next vacation!

“laid back Costa Rica”

If you are looking for a quiet, rustic bungalow treat than Azania Bungalows are the place. Located a short 3Km ( I walked there) from the laid back community of Puerto Viejo, Azania this quaint little bungalow resorts features rooms with comfortable beds clean bath rooms and a large front porch. The grounds are immaculate with a pool and spa and during our stay a two toed sloth up in the trees out side our bungalow. The restaurant had very good food and the bar although not a 'night spot' had friendly courteous service. The staff was wonderful and informative. My family has explored many areas in CR and we plan on returning to Azania Bungalows in 2013.

“A wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2011

The bungalows are secluded without being isolated. The grounds are gorgeous and the pool is refreshing. Best of all, the restaurant is delicious. There are bikes available for rent which make the trip to and from town perfectly reasonable, and makes it a better experience overall. My only complaint is the bugs which are very hard to avoid.

“Beautiful hotel”

My 14-year old daughter and I spent 3 days at the Azania Bungalows in April and were impressed with the comfort of the rooms and the beauty of the hotel. The rooms were quite nice - insect nets and fans were provided for each bed and the bathroom was very clean. The grounds are lovely; it had a nice pool (which we didn't use) and a restaurant which served decent food (a little on the expensive side). You have a choice of breakfast items each morning - some were better than others, but we enjoyed the chance to eat a variety of dishes rather than have the same thing. There are bicycles to rent on the grounds, and the staff was pleasant enough. The location was a bit out of the way - given the distance of Azania from Puerto Viejo and the prevalence of crime after hours, we were advised to only take taxis to and from PV after dark, which we did. The only negative experience we had (and it was not Azania's fault) was the fact that we were robbed while bicycling from PV to Manzanillo one afternoon - had our backpack, containing many of our valuables as well as our hotel room key and security box key, stolen by thieves wielding machetes. Also stolen were the bicycles we had rented from the hotel. The hotel didn't charge us for the lost keys, which was very nice, but did charge us for the bicycles - $100 each, which seemed quite high for them, considering how old they were - but what can you do? All in all, it was a wonderful place to stay and we would recommend the hotel to other travelers.

“Beautiful stay at Azania Bungalows”

This was a lovely find on pretty Cocles Beach, one of the nicest places we stayed on our three week trip. The location is a short walk to P.V. (about 20 minutes), but far enough away to be tranquil. The hotel grounds were really beautiful, a well kept garden of native plants tucked into the jungle. There's a nice pool, restaurant and bar. We didn't try the restaurant, except for the included breakfast, which was plentiful and tasty. Everyone we met on the staff were so nice and very helpful in arranging for taxis, directions or help making phone calls. Our bungalow was lovely, immaculate and very spacious, with a nice porch for relaxing. We felt it was a good value, at $100/night (incl. breakfast and taxes), especially considering there was room for two more people in the loft upstairs.

The property sits in the jungle across the road from the beach, which seemed pretty standard. We walked all the way down to Punta Uva, a wonderful walk, and saw only a few small resorts that were actually on the beach-side.

Skip the restaurant next door (at the spa resort). It was overpriced and very mediocre. The best food we had in Puerto Viejo was the delicious street meat the vendors were grilling up in the evening. Yum!
