The hotel and grounds are very nice and clean. You can go directly from there back garden to the beach (no swimming), next swimming beach is a 5 minutes walk through the forest by the beach. The room was spacious with a private kitchen and fridge. Water was very hot and the air condition worked. I had my private balcony with ocean view too. A little buffet stile breakfast is included into the price. The swimming pool was very clean but not deep, with a little waterfall and a whirlpool. the Sauna and a steam bath are a nice, welcoming break if it's not sunny.
The greek - costa rica couple who runs it was very nice and friendly.
Next time I come back together with my girlfriend.
It is a very good option, if you are a group of friends, because they have bigger apartments too.

When you're at Agapi, you feel like you're in the middle of nature - far from the hustle and bustle of civilization - and yet you're just a short walk from Puerto Viejo (I recommend the beach-side jungle walk to the road). As you relax by the pool, all you can hear are the waves, the birds and the monkeys. Agapi has rooms and apartments for all tastes and budgets - some with breathtaking views!

A group of 4 stayed here for a few nights in Puerto Viejo and this is a great option for groups or families. We had some problems with travel arrangements and Cecilia, the manager, was so helpful and took time to help us sort things out. Recommended.

I have been to Puerto Viejo several times and have always satyed at AGAPI. It is quiet, beautifully landscaped with a pool and jacuzzi, and is very clean with a/c now in many rooms- the best value you will find anywhere for all of these things in Puerto Viejo. I really do not understand the prior review stating it should be closed down by the health department. If you come to the jungle, there will be bugs...this place is very clean. Sounds like the author has personal qualms with the owners. Cecilia and Tasso are characters- I have always found them to be pleasant and accommodating.
