I stayed at Villas del Caribe for four nights in early September, and I loved it! Travellers should know, however, that the hotel is undergoing renovation, so that many of the rooms are closed. (I was the only guest while I was there.) The villas have french doors on the first and second levels; all the rooms look out onto beautiful gardens and the beach. In front of the hotel are coral reefs and tidepools, but directly to one side is a lovely crescent beach with relatively calm water. There is a path a bit back from the beachfront that seems to go for miles in both directions. The villas are decorated with bright colors and nice artwork and have both hammocks and chairs that you use on the balcony. The bike ride into Puerto Viejo is about fifteen minutes, but there's a small store across the road from the villas that sells fruits, vegetables, milk, etc; and there's a French bakery /deli just down the street. The staff is well informed. friendly, and helpful. All in all, this place far outweighed my expectations. I would love to go back.

My wife and I just returned from a 3 night stay in Puerto Veijo. We stayed at Villas del Caribe and it was a nice, clean, functional property with a great location (right on the beach). The villa was 2 bedroom with a full kitchen and patio on the lower level and 2 bedrooms up above. Daily rate = $69 US. I would stay here again and would recommend it to others. You get more than what you pay for. This was our 1st trip to Central Americal and it took me a little while to adjust to no AC, but the locale is just awesome. Beautiful beaches and no stress. And....there are very nice restaurants close by - Black Horse (Italian); Magic Ginger (French); and Maxi's down in Manzanillo (traditional fare).
