“AMAZING - Perfect Balance of Relaxation & Adventure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2012

I stayed at Samasati with my mother the second week of May and it was AMAZING! I can't enough good things about our experience at Samasati! It offers a PERFECT balance of relaxation and adventure. Please note, that if air conditioning, TV and internet are musts for you, this is NOT the place for you to stay. Samasati offers a great way to get away from it all and relax and enjoy nature. Since it is four hours outside of the city of San Jose Samasati offers authentic experience of Costa Rica, it is unforgettable.

The staff was extremely professional and responsive, from the time I booked our stay to the time we checked out. During our stay they were friendly and attentive and very helpful with anything we needed. They helped us arrange all our tours and excursions and were super helpful in arranging transportation and meals around them as well.

The vegetarian food was so delicious, very authentic and fresh, and the buffet style was perfect for trying it all and enjoying more of my favorites. I never went hungry! Each meal each day featured such a variety of flavorful foods made from organic foods grown on site. I am not a vegetarian, but I had no idea vegetarian foods could be so yummy!

The bungalow we stayed in was great. It featured 2 single beads downstairs and a double bed upstairs, a sitting area inside and a large porch/balcony with a hammock. The bathroom had everything we needed, all the basics, hot water showers, clean towels etc. They do change the towels every 2 days, which worked fine for us. We had brought an extra towel, for beach etc, so I would suggest if this is important to you bring an extra towel. The room had a fan, and between that and the breezes through the screened windows we didn't miss a/c. Waking up to howler monkeys and birds in the morning was so soothing, what a great way to start the day! We enjoyed swaying in the hammock in the afternoons, relaxing, reading a good book and listening to green parrots and toucans and watching the morpho butterfly find his way down the path.

I took a yoga class and it too was superb. Max is well trained in yoga and the class was good for every level, from beginner to expert. They have yoga mats for use there, but if you plan on doing to do a lot of yoga I would bring my own mat. They offer classes everyday at 6:30 am (before breakfast) and 5pm (before dinner). It was great to do yoga and enjoy the rainforest sounds in the background.

The view from the jacuzzi really is as amazing as the brochure and website photos! As are the views from the restaurant and reception area! It was great to sit there and just watch nature go by, sloths, parrots, toucans, eagles and such. Bring binoculars!

Seeing as I knew we were staying in the rainforest, I was prepared with Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard. As a person who normally gets mobbed by mosquitos when no one else is even touched, I was amazed that after I week I only had 2 bug bites! I would recommend checking out Columbia and REI for the moisture wicking clothing. It really is humid and cotton clothing does not dry once wet! Since I live in South Florida, I was a bit used to humidity but for some it can be a shock, and the moisture wicking clothing I brought did dry well in the rainforest climate.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- excellent service, we were well taken care of
- amazing food
- awesome views & sounds of nature
- relaxing and getting way from the hustle & bustle of life
- wide variety of adventures and activities offered

RECOMMENDATIONS:
- extra towel for beach/misc
- flashlight
- moisture wicking clothing (check REI and Columbia) - at least 1 pair of pants
- Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard/Sun Protection
- yoga mat, if you want to do a lot of yoga
- binoculars

ENJOY!!!!

“Rainforest Oasis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2012

Our 5 night stay with Samasati was possibly the best we have ever had at any hotel! Everything was wonderful. We were woken every morning by the orchestra of jungle animals and rising sun. My favorite part of our stay had to be the shower in our bungalow. It had a screened in view of the jungle and the Carribean in the distance. The fresh morning jungle air was amazing and what made it even better was that Samasati only uses water from the streams and waterfalls on their property so between the invigorating water and the fresh air it was as if I was literally bathing under a waterfall! The food was great (we are not vegetarians) and the staff were fun and friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant was so intimate that we got to know all of the other guests. Some might turn out to be life long friends.
There is no need to feel rushed at Samasati because you can do as little or as much as you want. Especially with it's close proximity to Puerto Viejo (free shuttle every morning). The morning yoga was fantastic. I wish I'd been able to do more of it but time flies there! No matter how long you stay, it will not be long enough! If you are afraid of bugs in any way, this may not be the place for you. You will either have to suck it up or suffer because they are big and they are everywhere. You have to remember that you are the visitor, not the lizards and insects. We had resident geckos in our room at all times. They were welcomed to keep the mosquitos at bay. (We were warned about the mosquitos before our arrival and I guess that those people have never spent a summer in Michigan because we didn't think they were bad at all.) My only complaint about Samasati would be that the beds were not the most comfortable. The mattress was a bit flat and we would have appreciated a couple more pillows(which they may have provided. We did not ask). But that was a small price to pay for the incredible time that we had. The first day that we arrived we saw Capuchin Monkeys playing in the trees. We spotted a sloth by the Yoga center and we sat for countless hours spotting Toucans, Hummingbirds, Parrots and many other unidentified birds. It truly was a rainforest experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in Bungalow # 6. The view was fantastic since it sat higher and slightly apart from the ot...

“They baked me a cake!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2012

My friend and I spent 5 days at Samasati in Feb. We landed there on my birthday. My husband
called them ahead of time and asked them if they could do something special for me. They
had decorated the room with flowers and along with the welcome information they had left me
a cute pair of earrings! Seemed like most people there had checked in the same day so there really wasn't much mingling at dinner. After they cleared way the dinner settings, the entire
kitchen staff came out with a cake singing happy birthday. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting - simply delicious! We made lots of friends that night :)

The breakfasts and dinners were delicious and if the yoga wasn't so amazing, would have been
the highlight of my trip. Which brings me to the yoga. The yoga classes were instructed by Max, who is one of the owners. Max is very good at gauging the level of the class and adjusting the session accordingly. Waking up every morning to the howler monkeys and cool breeze wafting through the screened windows, followed by great yoga and fabulous breakfasts made this the one of my best vacations yet.

The staff is very helpful and friendly. They suggested a lot of activities in and around the area
that weren't in the list of tours. A trip to Punta Uva and Manzanita beach is a must!

Will definitely go back.

“Samasati experience”

We truly enjoyed our stay with Samasati. The vegeterian foodwas very tasty and all the fruits and juices that was served were delicious. We enjoyed our routine yoga practice at your facility and
doing the meditation sessions in the evenings were very relaxing. We truly felt that we connected to the nature and we had no tv, laptop, cell phones and or land line phones to take away from our personal
time. We felt that the place was also well maintained and clean and we did not find any moquitos that was my biggest fear before I came there. For us this was truly a mind, body and soul connection trip and I would definitely do it again. I highly recommend this to our friends
as well!

Thanks for the experience!

Room Tip: I believe all rooms are nice and you will enjoy your stay.

“Beautiful and authentic retreat”

I have just spend 1 week at Samasati and it was more than what i was expecting.
Food was amazing, staff very friendly, location breathtaking.
I have been there with a friend, we have had great yoga classes (Max is a really good teacher, highly recommended); great adventures - excursions (canopy, waterfall and Caco trail) ; great chill out days at the beach. We did not have any problem with transportation and got in a very good flow with our days in the Jungle. It is an authentic retreat, no tv, no phones, almost no internet, based on good sustainable standards. i highly recommend this place if you want to take a break from the "tech - world" and reclaim connection with nature and more simple life. I will send my friends there!

Room Tip: We were in a classic room; very sweet and simple. all you need, really.
