“OK Hotel with pool and free tubing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

This hotel is out of town and in a quite spot, which is what we like. The hotel features small buildings that hold the rooms with small outdoor 'balcony' with a hammock. The room also has air conditioning, which you want during month of August. The restaurant is not very good. Dinner was a buffet for the two nights we were there (and I guess it is like this the whole season) and the food of the buffet was not tasty. The hotel has an outdoor pool, which is well kept, but again, with too few deckchairs (all hotels we visited did not have enough deckchairs for the number of people staying there). The spots the hotel advertises with (short trail, butterfly garden, frog pond) have not been maintained well and were somewhat dissappointing. The staff is absolutely service minded and very friendly. The hotel offers free tubing in the river around the grounds which is a short run, but a good start after you arrive at the hotel - we had a lot of laughs. I would recommend this hotel, but with a few remarks to manage expectations.

“If you are traveling with kids to Sarapiqui, this place is a must!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

If you are traveling with kids to Sarapiqui, this place is a must! It has playgrounds, frog ponds, lizards galore, bats, a butterfly garden, a swimming pool, a pool table, and tube rafting on the river that runs past the lodge. (The travel guides also mention horseback riding but that service is no longer available.) For adults there are hammocks, rocking chairs, hot showers, beautiful gardens, a bar serving cold beer and drinks all day at very reasonable prices, a restaurant that serves excellent food (especially the evening barbeque), a coffee bar with free coffee 24/7, and lots of tings to keep the kids occupied. And everything but the bar and restaurant are free! The staff was friendly and efficient. The rooms are not beautiful but are spacious and insure that if you are traveling with kids, there is room for everyone.

“Interesting But Tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

Room was small with a terrace that was okay but nothing special. Hotel design is good and airy. Restaurant adequate, food okay. Staff helpful on approach but looked rather apathetic. Bird tables good when loaded with fruit and birds feeding - lots of different types, big and small - good photo opportunities. Lots of books and stuff on the birds and wildlife of Costa Rica. Gardens pleasant but everything looked like it had been neglected. The butterfly enclosure had a few monarchs and not much else. The frog garden seemed abandoned. The vegetable and herb plots were vacant. The overall impression I got was that the lodge / country inn / hotel had been built with great eco-friendly ideas and enthusiasm, but for whatever reasons things had been allowed to slip and slide away.........

“A place of endless discovery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

If wildlife and birdwatching is your thing...La Quinta is a fabulous spot to be immersed in nature just steps away from your room. The covered walkways connecting our room with the dining room and guest lounge area gave us cover when the weather became wet.. The rooms available are neat. The bed is comfortable and there is a walkout deck with chairs and hammock with privacy provided by thick foliage. With high humidity and low air flow it is recommended to obtain a room with available air conditioning and therefore comfort will not be sacrificed. All meals were enjoyable. This is a great home base if visiting Le Selva and only a 20 min drive away. Highly recommend getting a guided tour of Le Selva to enhance the wildlife viewing and information one gains.
However, simply wandering on the grounds on the well marked trails was a pleasure to explore and offered many bird and wildlife sightings. The on site pool was a refreshing activity after a walk in the woods. One of our fondest encounters was meeting Blanketa
the family dog

“Good hotel but too many tour groups??”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2010

The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The gardens were delightful and hotel is located right by the river. The only down side was that I was with a large tour group and another equally large group was there at the same time. I felt sorry for anyone who had come for a nice quiet stay.
