“Toucans in the lobby!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

This was the last major stop on our birding trip. After settling into our rooms, there was a knock on the door..."toucans in the lobby area!". We rushed out to find Collared Aracari in the trees and feeding from fruits set out on a wooden slab. This was just the beginning! A seating area provided comfortable viewing of a large variety of birds at almost any time of day. One photographer said "this is almost like cheating" since the birds came to us.

The rooms were clean and basic...this is an eco-lodge...and the entire operation is dedicated to appreciating protecting the environment. The staff were friendly and accomodating. We were able to arrange two different tours for our first afternoon. We had already booked the La Selva Biological Station for the next morning. It was the highlight of our trip!

“Very out of date.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011 via mobile

Location for rafting and canopy was perfect.
Staff hardly speaks english. Food is very simple, don't expect anything special.
Rooms are big, but dirty and outdated. Beds are terribly hard.
Grounds look nice. Didn't see the croqs. Butterfly garden was empty.

Greetings!
We thank you all very much for the feed back, this is the only way we can improve. Because of our compromise with sustainability, 100% of our staff comes from our neighborhood, a rural area in Costa Rica where English is not a common skill. Hiring and training local workers is part of our policies of social responsibilities toward our community. We are working permanently on our English skills in order to communicate better with each one of our guests.
La Quinta de Sarapiquí Country Inn is located in the tropical humid zone of Costa Rica, where we share the space with wildlife. We strive everyday to provide a nice ambiance for our guests and for wildlife as well, all within our concept of a personalized small and rustic country inn.
Butterflies and caymans can be seen at mid day specially on sunny days because the sunlight would provide best conditions for the butterflies to fly and for the caymans to digest.
Warmest regards,
Beatriz

“A nice place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2011

We stayed at this hotel on our way to Arenal. We actually stopped her to do the Tirimbina Night Hike. The hotel wasn't the best that we stayed at but it suited our needs. The grounds were very nice but the pool didn't go past 4 feet deep. In my opinion the staff didn't speak much English but we found a way of communication.
During our stay here, my husband threw his back out and the front desk was able to call a local physician to make a house call. I would recommend this place to those who are happy with budget hotels.

“Butterfly garden is pretty.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2011

The rooms are adequate here - heaps of mosquitoes due to the close proximity of the river, so hanging out on the porch is a non-starter. Food was adequate. Love that the chef went out of his way to prep fish for the non-meaters in our group, and was very personable.

“Lovely place to spend a few days”

This was the third hotel on our tour and we really enjoyed staying here. The rooms were not particularly luxurious, but the hotel in general had a really nice atmosphere to it. Our room was a good size but there wasn’t much storage space and we weren’t able to get much use out of the terrace due to mosquitoes. Instead we spent quite a bit of time exploring the grounds & looking for wildlife – we particularly liked the butterfly house and were very excited to spot a caiman in one of the pools. The bar and restaurant area were nicely designed and we were quite happy with the food we has there (dinner was $19 approx per person). Internet access is cheap and there are plenty of sights/activities in reach of the hotel – some of our group went on a Chocolate Tour and others went Rafting. Although we only spent two nights there, we enjoyed our stay and would be happy to go back some time.
