We read about this in our travel guide and were inquisitive an we had good reason to be. This place is really very special indeed and is well suited to the hard-core nature lovers an the enthusiasts (we are only enthusiasts). It seemed a lot of the clientel were using this as a base to study. The lodge is very eco-orientated. It also offers a wealth of information and the staff are all virtually experts on Costa Ricas biodiversity. The river running through is beautiful. The walks and surroundings are amazingly preserved and cherished. The resturant was closing at 8pm as most of the people staying here were up 4-5am to get out and absorb the surroundings! We were told by the barman Ivan who was incredibly interesting and knowledgeable that around 60% of new discoveries and information about rainforests comes from the area and you can see why. The tours offered by the hotel are all very reasonably piced and very good. We did the early morning bird-watch (which we saw 3 types of different Toucan!) and the horseback riding. For the horseback riding we were collected by three local lads aged 14, 15 & 17 and it was probably one of the best expeiences in Costa Rica to watch these enterprising lads on their horses; we went into the farmlands then through rivers where they got off and were swinging from the vines and dropping into the deep! All lovely to see and experience - the riding and seeing how the local children. Selva Verde is beautiful, to seems it is more run due to the love of nature as opposed to a business although by saying this i do not for one second mean that it is not professionaly run because it most certainly is! Wonderful to see such respect for our environment. I very highly recommed this very special place.
