We stayed here twice and loved it both times. The highlight has to be Jose, the owner, who introduces you to his brothers, cousins, sisters, and mother, who are all a part of the warm welcome and comfort of the hotel. The first time we stayed was right after Christmas, and we were treated to tamales made by the family....some of the best we've had. The second time we checked in at 8 a.m. and Jose made us a hot breakfast as a welcome. The neighborhood is a fun area for walking around and seeing a community market, stores, bus station, trains, and park. Jose recommended a nearby restaurant, Oporto, which was excellent, and as a bonus was located next door to a chocolateria, where we bought gifts for friends in the States. The rooms are small, but feature everything one needs including thick cotton towels, which we don't always see in hotels in Central America. Lighting was good for reading, the water pressure and hot water were good, and there is a small book exchange with titles in various languages. Although there isn't a common room per se, only couches and chairs set in the hallway (as mentioned by another reviewer), the breakfast room/kitchen is a good place to have a cup of tea with friends, and enjoy some of Jose's home-baked cookies in the afternoon/evening.
