We stayed here one night when the electricity in our rental house went out. It was the only vacancy we could find at 9:00 at night. If you stay here for the location and don't really care about a decent room, you'll probably be alright, but this was by far the worst hotel we stayed in during our 2 months in Costa Rica. Horrible, horrible, horrible mattresses on the double and twin beds in our room, moldy smelling and looking AC, moldy ceiling in the bathroom that was starting to fall down. No coffee in the morning at all ! When I went to ask at the desk for coffee, ( because there is a restaurant in the middle of the hotel ) I was told I would have to buy my coffee from the french bakery next door. Well ,we got tiny styrofoam cups of coffee for $2 each, and that didn't begin to wake me up, but I wasn't going to pay that much for another one. My husband got up early and went surfing, and got his flip flops stolen. This is set back a good bit from the beach, with a lagoon and a good bit of sand in between, but it is much more isolated than the other hotels along the beach, so watch your things.

what a great place to get away from it all. very relaxed, very simple, very beautiful and really easy access to the beach and river mouth surf break. management create a personal and easy atmosphere and the food in the french bakery next door is great. would go again in a heart beat. Well I stayed there for 10 days and I loved it.
Great service, clean, nice staf helpfull adn no stress!
My view and terrasse were awesome!
On top of everything you have a backery with the best coffee in town on the permises.
I didn't took the time to have a dinner at the restaurant but i heard it is good.
They can also hool you up with a massage therapist that is great!

This certainly isn't a terrible place but I think the reviews such as the one in the Lonely Planet guide that convinced us to stay here might be a bit dated. We left with a very sour taste after the owner refused to let us leave a night early without paying for the unused night. The place was nearly empty but we'd had enough of Tamarindo after two nights and needed to get out. They were pretty aggresive about it, saying their policy is not to let anyone cancel without 7-days notice, which pretty much means they take your money whether you like the place or not. My advice: Unless you're coming in the busiest season, wait until you arrive and check it out, because all of the hotels were offering cut-rate deals for walk-ins.

On the plus side, it is near the beach. On the minus side, there is a lagoon between you and the beach that, when we were there, had not only garbage floating in it but also a bloated dead pig that was being devoured by a dozen vultures: Not exactly brochure material. Also, it's on the far edge of town and there is no sidewalk, forcing you to walk on the road with the very busy and sometimes aggressive traffic to get anywhere. We didn't feel safe walking here with the kids.
