“Great Hotel for Families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed at Capitan Suizo after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. We felt that this hotel exceeded our expectations. We stayed around Christmas time here for a week with our 3 sons (ages 9,11,12). We particularly enjoyed the wildlife at the hotel. The resident monkeys are fun to watch and hold and the family of racoons that eat in the lobby every night is crazy weird to see. There are iguanas, of course, on the property and abundant crabs and shells on the beach. The beach here has large swaths of tan sand, only rarely interrupted by large rocks which are easily avoidable. We stayed in a first floor room at the main building which I was a little worried about as it is not considered a 'bungalow', but they are extremely private with jungle follage all around and within feet of the swimming pool and restaurant. We enjoyed the free breakfast in the morning and we thought the restaurant food was great....a little pricey, but worth the expense. We walked down to Tamarindo several times for either lunch or dinner and found this to be a very easy 10 minute walk on the beach. Tamarindo is very touristy, but my boys never tire of a good souvenir shop. My husband and I took surfing lessons which were arranged at the hotel and were actually surfing by the end of the lesson. Our boys learned to surf the first day and surfed all week on the hotel beach. This hotel is really in a good location if you want a nice private beach experience, yet the amenities of a nearby town. Overall we had a great stay on this beautiful property and would absolutely recommend it to others (and already have).

Room Tip: First floor rooms in the main building have an air conditioner.

“Eco-friendly hotel”

We have stayed at Capitan Suizo for the past eight years--two weeks in Paradise. Perfect
weather, comfortable accomodations, attentive staff. Because it is a small resort, it has a very low-key and comfortable atmosphere. This hotel has received a very high rating for their environmental practices (no plastic bottles, recycling bins in each room, etc.) and
is active in Tamarindo environmental efforts. Breakfast is included with room stay, and the array of fresh fruits, juices, pastries and breads is fabulous. (They also have eggs/sausage). Their lunch offerings include salads that are beautiful--tuna, caesar, hearts of palm, caprese, etc. The evening menu is large so there is something for everyone's palate.

A very nice place to stay on the Beach Front. Very quiet just to relax and enjoy vacations. You are surrounded by trees. you will have the opportunity to see a lot of animals as well.

Room Tip: Bungalows are great!

“Not a Good Dinner Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stopped in for dinner after recommendations from others. The restaurant is in a beautiful setting outdoors and next to a great pool. Table seating foretold an enjoyable quiet dinner. But....Service was slow. Drinks came after the salad. Rum drink was good. Bloody Mary tasted like soap. Mahi-mahi was very fishy, mussels were not good, vegetables were OK. Pasta porcini was OK. While we were seated, a patron came to the table next to us and started a loud and obnoxious conversation that went on for some. The restaurant did nothing about it, so I finally did by waving him away, though the patron's wife stayed behind and continued loud. Not a good experience!

“Great family destination”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

My husband, two-year old daughter, and I stayed for four nights in January and had a wonderful time. The beach-front hotel is beautiful (surrounded by lush, natural gardens) and it has a great pool. Our bungalow (#7) was spacious and clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a nice big tub in the bathroom and in the back, there was an outdoor shower (with great water pressure).

But for us, Capitan Suzio stands out because of its wonderful employees. Almost across the board, they were incredibly warm, gracious, attentive, and instantly made us feel a part of the community. Our daughter still talks about the people she meet (especially Leo, Eddie "Spaghetti", Max, Helen, and Rosa) and is looking forward to a return visit!
