We stayed at Capitan Suizo after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. We felt that this hotel exceeded our expectations. We stayed around Christmas time here for a week with our 3 sons (ages 9,11,12). We particularly enjoyed the wildlife at the hotel. The resident monkeys are fun to watch and hold and the family of racoons that eat in the lobby every night is crazy weird to see. There are iguanas, of course, on the property and abundant crabs and shells on the beach. The beach here has large swaths of tan sand, only rarely interrupted by large rocks which are easily avoidable. We stayed in a first floor room at the main building which I was a little worried about as it is not considered a 'bungalow', but they are extremely private with jungle follage all around and within feet of the swimming pool and restaurant. We enjoyed the free breakfast in the morning and we thought the restaurant food was great....a little pricey, but worth the expense. We walked down to Tamarindo several times for either lunch or dinner and found this to be a very easy 10 minute walk on the beach. Tamarindo is very touristy, but my boys never tire of a good souvenir shop. My husband and I took surfing lessons which were arranged at the hotel and were actually surfing by the end of the lesson. Our boys learned to surf the first day and surfed all week on the hotel beach. This hotel is really in a good location if you want a nice private beach experience, yet the amenities of a nearby town. Overall we had a great stay on this beautiful property and would absolutely recommend it to others (and already have).
