“Deterioration inn”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

+ Nice and friendly staff, ok breakfast, free wifi in lobby, the beach is just across the road, sporadic hot water. Good stay for backpackers.

- Filthy, rundown and dirty. The pictures on their website are lightyears from the real thing.

I was screwd pretty good by a travel agent that recommended the place, but I think it's pretty chap. So you probably get wha't you pay for.
The beach is nice, but Tamarindo is a pretty filthy place in it self, and most of the infrastructure(with a few exeptions) tends to keep the same low and overpriced standard.

“El Milagro was romantic and beautiful, with an easy-going yet attentive staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

We stayed our first night in Tamarindo at El Milagro because of it's proximity to restaurants, shopping and nightlife, as well as for the charming cottage-style bungalows surrounded by lush tropical flowers. The price was economical, and the room was comfortable and roomy, with air conditioning, television, a safe for our valuables and plenty of space. We could have paid a fraction more for a room there with hot water, but we really didn't need it after baking in the sun all day on the beach just across the street!

We ended up staying a whole week after trying the delicious complimentary breakfast (everything from pancakes, eggs and juice to black beans, rice and plaintains with buttered toast) and meeting the wonderful staff. The front desk staff was friendly and attentive, helping us with everything from getting a reliable taxi to a remote beach on short notice, to keeping us supplied with Imperial and Pilsen at any time, day or night.

So, if you're looking for a charming and economical place to spend a few nights in Tamarindo, give El Milagro a chance. And make sure to get a cup of their coffee before you check out--it's as good as any we tried in Tamarindo.

“It was just ok...but nothing more”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2010

Breakfast was very very bad, it was dry, right away from the microwave, with no taste.
The location was great, just right next to the beach and in the centre. Loads of ants in the bathroom, that was kind of a pity. Staff was very friendly and happy! On the whole it was ok, but not super..!

“Deteriorating hotel that needs some attention”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2010

This is my third stay at El Milagro with high school spanish club trips since 2006. The tour company booked us at El Milagro so we were given no choice as to where we were staying. Since our first visit the hotel, rooms and grounds have greatly deteriorated. The first room we were given didn't have a working lock on the door. They were accomodating and gave us another room. Our room had dead bugs under the bed, ants all over the bathroom (due to part of our bathroom window being missing), and due to the window missing our a/c couldn't keep up with the heat. The grounds were lush in 2006 and unkempt in 2010. I am not sure if there are new owners or due to the economy they just aren't putting much into the place.
On a positive note, they have helpful, friendly staff and very good food. Though I was a little disappointed with not having much Costa Rican food...I can eat gringo food at home and part of the whole travel experience is to eat food typical to the area. They have a nice pool, the price is very low for the area and they are right across the street from the beach. I am hoping that they can revive this hotel as it could be a really nice place to stay!

“Charming, Tranquil & Serene”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2010

This hotel is a great find in so many ways. The room were comfortable enough for my family of 4. It has all of the ammenities that you would expect: AC, Cable TV, etc. In fact, my girls did not want to leave and we extended our vacation there by two days. The room was clean and I did not see any ant invasions as mentioned in other reviews.
My kids enjoyed the pool and it is just a short walk across the street for "beah time and shell hunting".
The staff was always polite and attentive. But I especially liked the breakfast that comes with the price - which incidentally is as about as low as you are going to see in town. Anway, Breakfast was "gringo" and not "typical".
We had bacon, eggs, pancakes, fresh fruits, fresh fruit drinks and more. But a typical breakfast is available if you want one.
Don't hesitate to book this place. You will not be dissapointed.
