“Warning - Your stuff will not be safe in your room !!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2007

A neighboring hotel was over booked, so for the first nite , was moved over to Tropicana. Went out to dinner and came back, everything of value was taken from the room,,,, over $1000 dollars worth.
I guess this place is ok to stay at as long as you don't mind donating your valuables to theives. Door was locked, so it could have been an inside job. My recommendation is obvious.

I have been coming to Tamarindo for 4 years now and the town conitnues to go down hill as far as theft is concern. It is happening at hotels as well as on the streets. Utilities are also being strained with the increase construction of new hotels and condos. Electricity was shut off almost every day for about 5 hours. And out of country construction workers have come piling into the region to work on new condo/hotels. They stay in little shacks and hang out on the main strip at night. It is very sad what is happening to this beautiful pocket of Costa Rica. If leaders of the community don't get a handle on what is happening, there is going to be even bigger problems down the road.

“I wish we didn't stay there.”

This should have been the highlight of the trip, but it wasn't. We were scheduled for the Hotel Tamarindo Dira, right on the beach. Last minute change by our tour agency, Grand Circle, put us across the street in the Hotel Tropicana - a disaster. I am not sure what I can really write about this place other than I wish we did not stay there. Its unfortunate that we ended up there.

“Not too bad for the price”

We stayed at the Tropicana for 3 nights. The rooms were not fancy, but affordable and clean. It was close to the beach and restaurants. There was some noise during the day due to construction nearby, but we didn't spend that much time in the room anyhow. Had no problems with the service or front desk, they were friendly enough, but we didn't need or ask for much. No restaurant or bar which would have been nice, but okay if you don't mind taking a stroll for your morning coffee. The pool was clean, but deserted most of the time. There didn't seem to be too many people around, probably they were all at the beach, or exploring elsewhere. Overall, if you don't require extra amenities and don't plan to spend your vacation inside a room this was a fine place to stay.

“Dont Stay Here”

It's looks pretty nice from the outside. However, it was a dirty, boring room with very uncomfortable beds. Hotel staff unfriendly and no one at pool or around hotel...EVER! You can hear everything from the main road and hotel neighbors (very loud all night). We only stayed one night and were happy to check out.

“Ghost Town”

I just returned from Tamarindo and stayed at The Tropicana for 4 nights. The hotel was nice, clean and very well kept. The rooms simple and the beds were not so great. The resturant and bar were not open the entire time we were there. We had to walk down the street to get everything, INCLUDING A CUP OF COFFEE. They said they did not know when they would re-open. That was the worst part. The hotel was like a ghost town! There is a huge pool but no one around. There is a swim up bar but no bartenders, kinda depressing. I would suggest the Diria across the street.
