“A lovely surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed here for three nights Feb 5-8th 2012. We booked last minute and got a great room with a lovely view! Beds were very comfortable , room was clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast was ok. Location was great, and the drinks were well priced and very tasty! The room safe was impossible to figure out and i think i accidently left mine locked(empty) because i couldn't get it open. After staying at the JW Marriot t1/2 hr away for the first 5 days of our trip, this was a little gem after the generic Marriot. I would recommend this to travellers who want a taste of Tamarindo!

Room Tip: We were in room 15 which i thought would be noisy but was just fine and had a lovely view!

“Honeymooners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My husband and I had an amazing time on our honeymoon. The hotel staff was great. We mostly ate outside at other restaurants located on the beach or up the street which you can get to through the hotel walkway that leads you to town. The breakfast was average and the same everyday but it was free, which was a plus. The beach is located directly across the street (a bit of a walk/hike), but beware as there tons of jellyfishes and stingrays. The locals are friendly. We did many tours but make sure to go around town as you may find a better deal than what the hotel is offering. You dont have to exchange money as every place excepts American currency. Also, there is a bank down the street that you can get your exit fee ($28) taken care of instead of doing this at the airport.

Room Tip: Need to stay on the upper floor to see the ocen view

“Nice Pool/Garden Area, Great Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stayed at this location in late January, 2012. The rooms are nice, the staff is friendly, and the outdoor area is very nice. The restaurant was the best we had in Costa Rica, and the restaurant staff is extremely good.

There is a great path from the hotel directly to the main street along the beach, making the walk to the water very easy.

My only knock on this place is that it was a little pricey for Costa Rica.

Room Tip: The rooms are themed, so if you want a particular style make sure you request it (Japanese, Tunisian...

“Nice place”

We stayed in a single room with a king bed and terrace access. The room was nice with an interesting feature of an "opened" bathroom to the sleeping quarters. This hotel is located about 5 minute walk to the beach in which you walk though a gated walkway. Staff was friendly and helpful and the included breakfast was not that all bad.

“Exceptional Customer Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed 3 nights in mid-December. The staff was nice, the room was clean, and the air conditioning icy cold! Location is central, and who cares if you have to check out your beach towel?? I'd trade a bug-free room for that 20-second towel wait any time. Don't skip the free welcome beverage, it's scrumptious.

Best of all -- I had previously emailed the concierge, to upgrade the room as a birthday surprise for my bf. They went so far as to have "Happy Birthday" spelled out in fresh flowers across the bed! Adorable touch, complete with delicious fresh fruit.

We did not try the restaurant for dinner, the breakfast was OK. The biggest inconvenience was a charge to use the common area computers (wireless is free in the rooms if you have a laptop). Other than that, El Jardin is a great spot in Tamarindo!

Room Tip: Upgrading to the pool/ocean view was worth it.
