My wife, son and daughter went to Costa Rica as a high school grad gift for our daughter. We were very satisfied with this resort. Very relaxing. Rooms were clean, staff were friendly and helpful, the food was very good with a decent variety. Not all the non motorized water activities they advertise are available. The currents at the resort can be dangerous for those with little experience, better in Tamarindo. The nightly entertainment was good but the live band tended to be way to loud to be comfortable and some of the audience participation games were very inappropriate for families with children, spoke with the manager about this and hopefully that was corrected.

Me and My husband stayed in this hotel from Jan. 21-28 2012 , Our stay was very plesant . Our rooms was cleand every day ,nice view to the garden , and a cleaning lady made for us a towel swams with flowers . Staff was very friendly and helpful . Lots of nice thinks to see. Town close by , 5 dollar with the taxi , but we just walked to the town and see monkeys and other animals on the way , takes about 20 minutes walk . Nightly show for all ages . Our tourguides was very well educated they can answers any quetion you have about Costa Rica . Great day trips , they can give you a better rate if you find more people for the same daytrip . We had 15 people from our hotel and they reduced the price 30 dollar per person . We would go back here any time .

My first trip to the Barcelo Langosta was February 2011 (with my husband) and I couldn't wait to return in January 2012 (with my mom). The beach is great for boogie boarding and surfing - you can rent boards by the pool from Iguana Surf. Part of the beach is volcanic rock (perfect for checking out tide pools), the other is a lovely stretch of sandy beach. Go for an early morning walk to see the turtle tracks in the sand.
The town of Tamarindo is within walking distance and has many restaurants and clubs if you're looking for some nightlife (the hotel is lacking in this respect).
Food at the resort is good, but sometimes repetitive. The restaurants are not open 24 hours, but if you're leaving for an early morning excursion you can find coffee, fruit and pastries in the buffet restaurant before opening hours. Snacks and drinks are available in the afternoon at the pool bar. The sunset view is gorgeous!
Hotel rooms are adequate but a bit dated. On both trips our room smelled musty at first (not unusual in this climate), but after airing out they were fine. Coffee was supplied daily, but if you want milk, bring a small water bottle to the buffet to fill up and keep it in the mini fridge.
The grounds are very well kept and there are lots of birds and animals around the hotel - iguanas, howler monkeys, and the coolest squirrels I've ever seen.

With the exception that our first room was right outside the theater facility (too loud) we had a great time. They moved us the next day. The beach is the best part, although the pool area is also very nice.

The beach area is non typical for an "all inclusive" in that it is shared with a public beach, which is part of a national park. There was no nighttime access to the beach which was a bit of a bummer, but there was evidence that turtles had come up and laid eggs when you walked well up the beach. The beach is at the ocean connection to a nice tidal estuary, in our opinion that just added to the location but for some crossing the connection could be an issue. There is strong / moderate flow at peak and ebb and flood of the tides.

The staff was almost always helpful.

The kayaks were not available (despite the brochure) as the were out for "repair" but in the 7 nights we were there, no attempt to service them or make them available was apparent.

The food was typical for an all inclusive. Plenty of choice - food was never exceptional but never horrible either.
