“Avoid this hostel!”

I was in this place few days ago and it was the worst experience I had in Costa-Rica. It is not the place itself but the owner. After we checked in (28$ for double room) he told us he want us to pay for luggage storage one dollar for each hour for each person. When we told him that this is a free service in other hostels he went completely crazy, insulting us and telling us to leave without giving us our money back (?!). The matter was solved only after the police came.
There are a lot of nice places in San Jose, avoid this one!

“Hostel on the way down”

From the sounds of the write up in Lonely Planet, JC and Friends had better days. The rooms are not that bad, affordable for the area and having a kitchen will save you a lot of money. The rooms run around a small pool, but I wouldn{t swim in it if I was you, especialy with the ocean a mere five minutes away. Free internet, a shared television are good but the place looks a litle run down. The kitchen was a bit dirty and the washroom is so-so. Can be okay if the right crowd is there. I would stay somewhere else next time, but would take JC and friends again if nothing of similar value could be found.
