“Beautiful garden apartment in the heart of a pleasant beach town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

My husband and I stayed in the casita for 1 month in January. I don't think you could find a more lovely garden in a more central location than Casa Coba. The casita is one large room plus a bathroom with good sized but lukewarm shower. It is beautifully built with natural wood accents and furniture, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook for ourselves. There is a nice big covered patio outside where we spent much of our afternoons in the hammock.

Inside Casa Coba's very secure walls are the owners and one other apartment, so if you're lucky like us you'll have some friendly neighbors during your stay. Speaking of friendly neighbors, there are 7 cats who come and go on the property; some shy and some (my favorites!) who appeared like clockwork, pretending innocence, the moment I started making dinner. We found Casa Coba and Samara in general very quiet except for some distant bar music on the weekends. Don't worry about bugs because the doors have lovely screen curtains, there is a mosquito net on the bed, and the apartment is dilligently cleaned twice a week - even a little too dilligently for us!

The owners Katrina and Pierro were a pleasure to live with. They speak fluent English, Spanish, French, and German and worked hard to make sure we had everything we needed. Pierro makes amazing homemade bread and Katrina makes a very tasty fermented fruit drink! Katrina runs a popular morning yoga class at the back of the garden, although we didn't attend it. Instead we rented boards and took surf lessons from Choco's Surf School. If you have the time, Samara is a great beach for learning to surf. It's also a great beach for swimming and long strolls, and it's just a minute's walk from Casa Coba to the water. Grocery stores, banks, restaurants and bars are all within a couple minutes walk. I recommend Cafe Esmeralda for great food and L'Ancla for having a quiet drink and watching the sunset.

“Casa Coba isnt just about the place, its about the people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

I stayed in the tastefully decorated and comfortable two room casa with my two small children for 8 months, and I could hardly make myself leave when it was time to go back to the states. In addition to the lovely tropical surroundings, the landlords, Piero and Karina are everything you would want to experience in a landlord. They respect your privacy and sense when you need it, yet are always available to help you plan a trip or enjoy an evening of great wine and good food together, Karina is an outstanding cook, using both local recipes and old favorites from her home country of Switzerland while Piero is the angel problem solver and fixer upper around Casa Coba. He diligently and impressively, i might add, keeps everything including the hummingbirds humming!!! . Mornings were my favorite part of the day. The hummingbirds are there to greet you. along with a freshly brewed morning cup of coffee and a friendly Swiss "Halo Valerie" from Piero. In very near proximity is an inviting and invigorating yoga class being skillfully taught by Karina to get your blood flowing and muscles pumping. And if you are realy nice to Piero, he will share his famous fruit smoothies that he makes for his breakfast using his own home grown bananas. From the first day you arrive at Casa Coba, you start to feel healthier then you did on arrival. The early morning enthusiasm and energy for life and the day ahead are so contagious that you cant have a bad day even if you try. There is laughter and love for life on every level and from everyone. Even the senorita that cleans your rooms and does your laundry is a person you will never forget and will learn from as she teaches you all the little secret ways to clean, fold, and get things done around a house - the Costa Rican way.. Trust me there are some notable differences!!! The location of this particular landing spot is perfect as well. You are as centrally located as you can be- within walking distance of Samara's beach, bars, restaurants, malls and even churches. It is all there........................wating for you.... and hopefully me and my children when we return.. Enjoy both the place and the people of CASA COBA!!!
And one more thing: Although I went to Costa Rica hoping for my kids to be exposed to and learn the Spanish language and culture, they, by virtue of having lived at Casa Coba, were privy on a daily basis to German, Spanish French and English conversations as well as tasted piping hot home made French bread daily, Spanish mango salads and real Swiss Chocolate sometimes all in a day!!! I can say no more. See it and live it for yourself.. If you would like to see my pics of Casa Coba and our life there, feel free to view my fb.. just tell me that you are a friend of Casa Coba are I will accept you on facebook as a friend...............IINDEED!!

When you get there, please give my kindest regards to Boo Boo, our favorite resident monkey!!!

“Delightful lodging and hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2009

We stayed two nights at Casa Coba. The apartment was tastefully appointed as well as beautifully built by the co-owner Piero. Karen and Piero were gracious hosts and we would definitely stay there again. The location is within walking distance of any of the local stores as well as banking, restaurants and of course the beach. They have a locked gate for privacy and security. Our visit to Play Samara was enhanced by the magical surroundings inside the compound at Casa Coba and made that portion of our trip all the more complete. Thanks to Karen and Piero from Diana and Phil.
PS I was going to add a photo but added the wrong one and couldn't delete it. Oh Well!
