We--girlfriend and I--stayed there for four days in February for the first leg of our trip. The hotel is right on the beach, close to the airport, and a good place to be based out of for the northern part of Guanacaste. The rooms were clean and big. The hotel is pretty and the staff were very nice. We enjoyed having coffee on the terrace and its happy hour. Although we met a lot of other Americans there, we also experienced a lot of Costa Rican culture through the hotel and its surrounding neighborhood. At the end of our trip, we moved on to an all-inclusive hotel and we wished that we were back at Velero. The place is just really nice and comfortable. Bear in mind that it isn't a big American style hotel. If you've ever stayed at B&Bs in Ireland, you'll understand that spending a little less for a room sometimes gets you better culture and you'll be able to spend your money on food, alcohol, and activities. (note: you'll hear the monkeys in the morning but isn't that the point of going?)
