My girlfriend and I stayed here for a week and would definitely return. Overall the resort is an extremely relaxing, laid back place. They truly exemplify "pura vida". We flew into Liberia and it takes about an hour to get from the airport to the resort so plan ahead for that.
Check in was easy. If possible get a room with a pool or ocean view and a balcony. Our room had neither. We had a view of the parking lot and no balcony which was a disappointment. I asked the front desk if it was possible to change and the only other option was a 1st floor room that was significantly smaller (although it did have a pool view and walk out). We ended up staying in the original room. In the end we didn't really spend much time in the room so it was only a minor issue. The room was very clean and had a microwave and fridge.
We got the inclusive breakfast plan which was totally worth the price ($10/person/day). They had some good breakfast choices and it was nice to start the day on a full stomach. The omelet bar service was inconsistent so if you want one order it right when you get to the restaurant.
The lounge on the 2nd floor is a great spot to relax and have a drink or dinner. The service was very friendly. We spent a lot of time up there just enjoying the ocean breeze.
The resort has a lot of options for activities. We did the Buena Vista lodge tour and jet skiing. It takes about 2 hours to get to Buena Vista and the bus leaves at 7:15 so it's an early day. The trip was well worth it though. You get to go down a 400m water slide, zip-line, ride horses and enjoy the mud baths and hot springs. They include lunch as well. Our tour guide was very entertaining and friendly and did a good job of herding cats as our group was large and tended to be all over the place.
The town of Tamarindo isn't too far from the resort. It takes about 30 minutes by cab. It's a good place to go into for shopping/restaurants and has a nice beach. We also stopped at the supermarket for groceries. The prices were comparable to U.S. prices.
I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun getaway. There were a few families with kids there but honestly I think they should have chosen someplace else to go that is more "family" focused. I didn't really appreciate the screaming/splashing/ mental breakdowns while I was trying to relax and read. That has more to do with the parenting than the resort itself.
Overall I definitely recommend Flamingo Beach Resort. The service was great. It was clean, comfortable and relaxing. I would go back.
