My fiance and I spent 9 days staying at Rancho Armadillo and would highly recommend it. Rick was a wonderful "host," providing us with very helpful information and recommendations on what to do (and what not to do!) during our stay. He went out of his way making us reservations at any restaurants of our choice, and his breakfasts were amazing and not to be missed! We were able to get in several day trips from this location, including many beaches. Our experience here well surpassed our expectations. If we ever make it back to Costa Rica, which I hope we do, we will certainly return to Rancho Armadillo!

Absolutely couldn't have had a better experience. Title line above says it all. Would only add that Rick was a fountainhead of local knowledge and anecdotes about life in his part of Costa Rica. Would absolutely visit again and recommend unhesitatingly to any friend.

You can read the other reviews about general stuff. We are experienced travellers. If you are flying into Liberia Airport and arriving at night, you can safely get to Rancho Armadillo in about a half hour. All roads are paved. It is really easy. In terms of the directions, if you arrive at night, follow them the directions that have been sent to you. If you pass an anchor in the middle of a newly divided highway, make a U where you can. Make your first right and you'll be almost there. You'll see the name printed on a rock.

Now, about the host. Rick is the coolest guy. He used to own restaurants and was a chef. How do you think the breakfasts are? YUMMY. We had a 7:00 a.m. flight back to reality. We were planning to leave at 4:30 a.m. At 4:20 a.m. there was a knock on the door. Rick wanted to make sure we didn't oversleep and miss our plane. What a sweetheart.

Will we be back? You betcha. We loved everything from our room, the grounds, the pool and the location...we walked into town for lunch. Do stay here. You'll love it.

Myself and my girlfriend returned to Rancho Armadillo for our second visit to this Guanacaste hotel/resort. Nothing much had changed in the last 2 ½ years. And that’s a good thing, because Rancho Armadillo feels just like coming home to a good and helpful friend, Rick Vogel. A friend who has the coolest house; with a beautiful ocean view, cozy hammocks, surrounding jungle and animal life and one of the most yummy breakfasts you’ll ever have.
