“Colorful and inviting hotel”

Right from the start we were enthralled by the beauty of the premises: lots of outside relaxing area, a beautiful kid corner, gorgeous rooms with lots of style and great mattresses and pillows. The breakfast is really good too.

We found the place to be a bit noisy at night because of the central location (people around talking loudly around midnight and lots of trucks driving nearby).

I will restate things that have already been said, but that I find important to mention:

The owner is really nice and speaks perfect English. The staff was nice, but service was not even. The first morning we had to wait 30 minutes with hungry kids to get breakfast, whereas the other day it was super fast and the service was great.

It's hard to get the shower temperature right. Some of the beds are in a loft. There's a railing, but the balusters are widely spaced, and there's a ladder climb required to get up there. Not so great with kids.

It is Costa Rica and there is no door sweeps or weather stripping, so there can be bugs coming in. We found a huge spider in the bathroom (we have been in Costa Rica for 2 months, so that did not bug us...), but it could bug others...

Thank you very much for your wonderful compliments and also feedback! We understand we have room to improve!
For future guests I would like to expand and clarify certain things:

Noise: We agree that the hotel can be a bit noisy due to the proximity to the highway. In your case, the inconvenience was a group of cyclists that arrived late at night and were not courteous enough to respect the fact that there were people sleeping, or trying to sleep. They again made noise as they woke up and prepared for a cycling tour at 5:00 am. This is an uncommon situation. Unfortunately you were very unlucky to be here that day.

Service: In regards to the uneven service, we are working to fix that. In services, maintaining a uniform service is the most challenging. We apologize for that!

Loft space: The loft space is in a way an innovation. Some people love it, some people don’t. Children love it, because its fun! But parents with small children I can understand how they can get a bit worried. This is why, if you are traveling with small children (under 5), please let us know in advance and we will install and additional bed in the main floor.

Bugs: Yes its tropical Costa Rican, and do have lots of little creatures running or scrolling around our premises. We have installed the door sweeps and we run seasonal pest controls to reduce bugs indoors.
Over all it was a pleasure having your family at El Punto!

Mariana

It's right next to the main road, but you wouldn't know it as it feels very idyllic, and the rooms are 'boutiquey' in feel and very clean and spacious. Breakfast wonderful - freshly baked bread.

“Beautiful, relaxing hotel”

El Punto was the perfect place to relax on our last night in Costa Rica. The owner, Mariana, has impeccable style, and has clearly worked hard to make El Punto a beautiful and comfortable place to stay. Colorful paintings hang in the rooms and common areas, and part of the hotel is even used as a gallery that highlights work from local artists. Breakfast included delicious, fresh-baked bread, which we loved. For lunch or dinner, be sure and check out Casa Verde, which is right next to the hotel. Overall, a wonderful stay!

“Staff don't know what is going on most of the time. Eclectic, comfortable, and fun.”

My husband and I stayed at this hotel on the last night of our honeymoon before flying out of Liberia the following day. We were attracted by El Punto because of positive reviews in LP and its eclectic and different vibe. We thought the price was a little high but gladly paid the 98$ for air conditionning, breakfast, and a comfortable bed for our last night.
We had reserved days in advance on the telephone with Marianna; however she did not take our credit card (they do not need it for reservations on the phone) and we found this bizare, as we wanted to make sure we had a room secured for our arrival in Liberia. We followed up wih an email confirming this (including cost of room, arrival time, and airport shuttle).
Whe we arrived at our expected time, it took us a while to find someone who worked there. The woman who did not speak any English could not find our name and reservation written anywhere and did not seem to have a clue as what to do. Finally we agreed on a price and booked our complimentary "airport shuttle" for the next day.
Breakfast the following day was delicious and nicely presented.
When the shuttle arrived to take us to the airport, we found out the it was a taxi and that the driver expected us to pay him. We said that this was included in the price of our hotel and he spent the next 15 minutes walking around the hotel trying to find someone who worked there to get paid. finally he found a woman and she had no clue what was going on. In the end, it got worked out, however if we were tight for time to catch our flight and spoke no Spanish, this would have created a very stressful situation.
Bottom line is that this is a very fun, different, comfortable, and clean hotel; however if you are looking for top notch hospitality and staff that know what is going on, this may not be the place for you. We have read many good things about the owner but we did not have any intereactions with her. If you are travelling to the airport and need a "shutttle", make sure that you give yourself plenty of time and make sutre that everything is set up beforehand.

“Eclectic and fun”

I traveled to El Punto with my mother-in-law, my wife, my 5 month-old son, and my 5 year-old daughter. This is a fairly eclectic little hostel, painted in beautiful colors, with rooms laid out in a unique way. We enjoyed our stay, and would stay there again.

Pros:
1) Location was awesome! The hotel is within easy walking distance of the center of Liberia, but is far enough away to be quiet. It's right next to a shopping center with an ICE store (so you can get a Costa Rican sim card), several ATMs, and some very nice restaurants.
2) Laundry service is included. This is a God-send when travelling with a 5 month-old.
3) The staff is very friendly, and was patient with my broken Spanish.
4) The rooms are comfortable, and air-conditioned.
5) The grounds are very well maintained, and are very pleasant.
6) There's a nice "vibe" about the place, with several artist's studios in the facility.
7) The beds have *excellent* mattresses.

Cons:
1) The rooms don't have door sweeps or weather stripping, so we saw about 10 ants per night.
2) Most of the staff members don't speak English.

Other notes (neither good nor bad):
1) It's hard to get the shower temperature right. It's either too hot or too cold.
2) Try to get the room closest to the reception desk. It's the nicest.
3) Some of the beds are in a loft. There's a railing, but the balusters are widely spaced, and there's a ladder climb required to get up there. You might want to think carefully before letting your kids sleep up there.

Room Tip: Get the room closest to the reception office. Some of the further rooms are laid out in such a way...
