“Nice and interessting, but by way not worth the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

This place must be fantastic when the weather is too. This is part of a farm, you are in the green, between cows. We read books in front of the fire instead of doing hikes in the surroundings as it was storming awfully outside. Unfortunatelly, we did not have a car, so we were stuck. The mainhouse is spectaculary built and there is enough space for everybody to find a cosy corner, if needed. Service was very good, all of them very friendly and they would bring us our coffey to our sofa, that was nice..(we ursually go backpacking and take care of ourselves, but for a change..) Still I did not feel happy. An electric hotair blower could not make our room comfortable, as the door had a gap, both above and below. Therefore it does not make sence to have it on the whole night and it is to noicy too. We were freezing all the time. (You hear everything your neighbour does and he hear you, too.) To dine here is expensive, taxes included and no alcohol is 30 +/- Dollar per Person! Considering you are far away there is no chance to walk to a nother place (at least not when it's storming outside). You can choose between 2 dishes (or have pasta) from a menu but if you don't eat meat I think this is pretty much for a plate of Spaghetti. I dont even pay so much in my homecountry, which is rather known for being expensive. Soup or Salad and a dessert is also in the price. Breakfast was in the price and was really good. We had fresh strawberrys from the surroundings! Even if the food was good and even if they were very, very friendly, we are sorry but we will not come back. It's just to much money for having an icecold room, we think. PS. Don't pet the old dog, even if it is coming over to you by it self.

“Poas Volcano Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We stayed three days at the Poas Volcano Lodge in the older rooms, The room was a bit small, but bed was confortable. No Chairs or any Coat hooks in Room to hang your stuff.
The Breakfast was really good. Loved the home made foods. Wouls recomend to eat dinner at the cafe just a mile from lodge.

Room Tip: Stay in the newer rooms across from the Lodge

“Tremendously inviting environment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Poas was enshrouded in clouds but the Poas Volcan Lodge was warm and wonderful. Gorgeously appointed common areas, very comfortable room and bathroom. Complete with heater and humidifier for coping with even the wettest evening (which we definitely had). The food and overall ambience was terrific.

Room Tip: The junior suites were very reasonable priced and spacious

“What a cosy lodge!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We stayed here on the 1st & 2nd of December at the end of our holiday in Costa Rica. The weather was awful – very cold and wet – but the lodge was the perfect place to stay in such conditions, with wood-burning stoves and a shower with plenty of hot water. We stayed in the suite, which was an enormous room with a log-cabin feel to it, and had a nice modern bathroom. (Strangely, though, the room was not made up during our stay…)
Regrettably we weren't able to enjoy the views because it seemed the whole lodge was floating in a cloud at the time – all we could see outside the panoramic windows in the dining room was milky white fog.
Breakfast was delicious, with home-made marmalade and jam, bacon, eggs, etc. Dinner was fine, although a little pricey for what it was.
The lodge was undergoing some construction and renovation work while we were there. The old stables are being converted into new cabins which will be rustic but very comfortable. Michael the owner is a lovely host, as is Beba the manager, a wonderful warm-hearted lady of Cuban origin who makes everyone feel supremely welcome.
A big special thank you goes to Andrea, a member of the staff, whose mother took in a stray ginger kitten we rescued from the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, and cheekily took back to the lodge with us. It could not be housed there, but Andrea arranged for her mother to adopt it. We left Costa Rica on a very happy note and hope Tigger is doing well!
