“Surrounded by beauty at the Arenal Green”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We stayed at Arenal Green from Jan 28-30 and absolutely loved it! Can't say enough great things about this little place. The individual rooms are so cute and very comfortable. And the views of the volcano are a great bonus too! The owners and staff were extremely nice and welcoming, and the location was great. We didn't have a car, and found it pretty easy to get around. The walk into La Fortuna took about 20 min and we also hiked to the waterfall, which is a 40 minute hike uphill. Definitely a workout, but very well worth it once you get to the spectacular waterfall. It's also on the same road as the hotel so there's no navigation necessary - just take the same road all the way to the end. Very easy.

We had some issues on the morning we checked out as their credit card machine was down and we didn't have enough cash to pay the bill. We had a bus coming to pick us up and we're a little stressed out how the whole thing, but the owner was very nice about it and let us leave with no hassles. German apologized for the inconvenience, and took my credit card number and told us he would put the charge through once the machines were back up. We really appreciated that as we were scheduled to leave first thing in the morning and didn't have time to go into town to take out more money. The charge was put through a few days later and we received a very nice email thanking us again for for staying with them.

All in all, I would definitely return to Arenal Green. It was a great little b&b on a beautiful property with very nice staff.

“A great stay in Arenal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

It's easy to find Arenal Green (if you keep an eye out for the sign pointing off the main road as you drive in) but it's far enough away from the hustle of La Fortuna that you can better appreciate the setting--and the views--of this idyllic little place. We stayed in Cabin 7, which I believe is the largest cabin, even though we had reserved one of the smaller ones and the owner gave us the cheaper rate all the same. Speaking of the owner, German and his family were very welcoming without being at all intrusive.

As other visitors have noted, cabin 7 has an outdoor kitchen and seating area which we really enjoyed. We loved sitting outside in the hammocks on the patio and watching the clouds roll in and out of view over the volcano. The views from the grounds are fantastic. The cabin itself was clean, comfortable, and spacious.

If you're looking for fine dining and luxury, head to five start Tabacon about 15km outside of town. But if you want a peaceful, no frills, relaxing stay, Arenal Green is great. Next time we visit the area we will definitely stay here again.

“Ask for room 9!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012 via mobile

We were the first tourists in new room 9 and really enjoyed our stay! Room 9 is "in the rain forest", remote from the other cabanas. The walls are "open", so you can hear the sound of the nearby river all night long. It's really as if you are sleeping in the middle of the jungle, but then in a comfortable bed! Great experience! The owner is also very friendly and drove us for example to the center of town one night in his own car. Great hospitality.

“Great stay at Arenal Green!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I had read several trip advisor reviews and had high hopes - and was not disappointed. The place was lovely.... I had read reviews that cabin #8 was the best - so I'd requested that and we stayed there.... the view was amazing... the breakfast was also amazing, although I wish it started earlier since many of our activities we did left early and we had to rush or not get much breakfast. German must have been out of town when we were there because I did not see him and although the front desk was pleasant I didnt think they were outstanding or went out of their way.... one night we got back to our room and there was no water - i went to the front to tell them and the guy behind the counter hardly spoke english (nor I spanish) but said "all water out" we asked if it would be fixed later and he just shrugged and said "i dont know" - so not very helpful! luckily it was on later when we returned. the staff at our other locations i felt was much friendlier and helpful.
i liked the location of the hotel - we walked to La Fortuna and to Cerro Chato (although I wouldnt overly recommend either of those).... there was a great wood art galery up the road that was wonderful though!! :) We also walked to town most nights since it was only about 2 miles.... I was glad we were not right in town though and we always felt safe walking.
So all in all I enjoyed our stay here very much although they would have got 5 stars if the staff were a bit better. But overall great stay.

“The owner is so accomidating”

Three of us stayed at the Arenal Green for 3 nights, staying in the Villa. This large cabin, with 3 beds, is designed to hold 6 people. We had an outside area with a bar area, refrig, coffe pot, and small cooktop. We only used the frig, but we sat outside alot. We were across the bridge and could hear the creek whenever it rained, which was often as this is a rainforest. German is everywhere, making sure that the grounds are maintained just as he wants, which is perfect. The hotel is close to town, but I would not walk it. We booked most of our tours through them. They just want you to enjoy being there, and have a good time. We had our suv, which makes it easier anywhere in the country. But most of the others at the hotel were using buses and cabs. We are from Colorado. Our neighbors at the hotel were from Canada, Sweden, and Gedrmany. We found that many in the area that many were on extended holidays from Europe. An example of German's level of customer service was that he was helping me book an evening Excursion to see th ered eyed tree frog; the phone to the place was not working correctly, so he loaded me in his car and drove me over to book the tour. It was not far, but that is really going all out to help. And few did this tour, but I would recommend it, and I would do it again if I was there. Our cabin had a second bathroom oout on the patio area. If you want some space to spread out, this was nice for only a little more in cost. We paid $135 per night. Know that this is not like staying at a large resort. It has no pool, and is more in keeping with the rain forest. There are large properties there, and if you want that, then do not stay here. We generally do the large resort, but found this to be a relaxing, wonderful break. Take a chance. Try something different. And enjoy the personal hospitality that you will experience at the Arenal Green.
