“The lovely staff make this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012 via mobile

I was travelling in Arenal on my own and wanted to make the most of the area whilst on a break away from the surf..
the ladies at reception are great... like a tight team of concierges, they took care of organising all my activities promptly with good advice (white-water rafting, canopy tour, quad biking, night-time frog watch, hot springs at Tabacon) and always asked how I got on with each day. Laundry was done well, the room/cottage was a great size, meals in the resto were good and the service was very friendly and competent. Its a good location to see the volcano (if the clouds clear!)
I really recommend this place for the warm attentive staff.

“Nice Place Near Arenal Volcano”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Nicely situated about 4 miles out of LaFortuna, the Arenal Volcano Inn (AVI) is in close proximity to most of the local attractions. The grounds are nicely landscaped, and the room was clean and well appointed with a frig, wifi and tv. Our bathroom was huge! However, there was a noticable shortage of counter space in the bathroom for personal items and there was a minor issue with water drainage from the shower onto the floor.

Food at the hotel was average. Overall, we would rate AVI as average and well worth considering when in the Arenal Volcano area. It has a nice view of the volcano on a clear day.

“Superb location, excellent service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We warmly recommend this hotel if you are going to stay in Arenal Volcano area for birdwatching & wildlife photography or just to enjoy the setting and the amazing views on the volcano. We visited the place while travelling in a small group guided tour ( Amerik Aventure ecotours ) back in May with our daughters. We are keen wildlife watchers and photographers and thought our stay in this area would not be the best part of the trip in Costa Rica since it is a somewhat crowded (touristy) area of the country. Well, we where wrong, some of our best pictures and memories are from this area! We had in this hotel a small cottage or "cabana" very cozy and clean with a full wall large window yielding amazing views of the volcano, night and day. The pool was much appreciated in the afternoon when returning from our hikes and the restaurant was also great, excellent quality and fast service (amazing breakfasts!). We highly recommend this hotel in the area both for the location & views and for the quality of the services.

“AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING place to have a wedding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

My brother and I ended up engaged at the same time so we decided to have a double wedding and do it in Costa Rica. We worked with Hernan (co owner) or Arenal Volcano Inn. He was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!! He put SO much work and effort into making our day beyond perfect, which was even more of a task with 2! brides!!!. He found our videogorapher, photographer, cake baker, the officiant, they did the dinner (amazing food!) and when the florist just brought loose flowers instead of the bouquets and corsages and such, Hernan and his staff sat down and made up all of the flower arrangements for us. He and his staff not only put together our INCREDIBLE wedding, but he went way out of his way to help us set up hotels and tours and trips in Monteverde before we came to Arenal for the ceremony. He called and arranged a shuttle for our entire family to go to Monteverde from the airport and then for a boat tour across Arenal to get there for the ceremony. The set up for the ceremony was also incredible! They set up an alter with flower decorations, a tent to shield our guests from the sun, and even arranged a DJ for us free of charge. We told him what kind of favors we wanted for our guests and he went and bought them and even put them in these cute little bags for everyone to take home. He also arranged and bought favors for us to bring home for everyone for our reception here in the United States. The hotel is beautiful, with individual little cabanas, hot water and it's even a green hotel with plenty of recycling and lots of energy savers.... but still plenty of hot water! The site is absolutely stunning, the volcano is directly in front and every room faces it with large picture windows for an amazing view. There is a pool and a "hot tub" (though it really was more of a "warm tub"), and the restaurant on site has great food for very reasonable prices. Hernan even blocked off a large section of the restaurant for our reception dinner and dancing for just our guests with large swaths of beautiful fabric in our colors. The place settings for the dinner were incredible with gorgeous centerpieces. When we had problems with our hotel for our last night in San Jose before we returned home, he even made some calls and found us some great reservations elsewhere. Hernan and his staff went FAR above and beyond what was required of him to make our big day absolutely perfect. It was everything we could have dreamed of and more. The rooms are spacious and comfy, clean and quiet and the view absolutely cannot be beat. Every single staff member that I encountered was very friendly and attentive. I will DEFINITELY be making more than one return trip to visit Hernan and his establishment in the future. THANK YOU HERNAN!!!!

Room Tip: Although there are adjoining rooms for slightly cheaper, it is definitely worth it to pay a little e...

“Good Enough”

Location wise it's pretty much part of the strip of hotels between Fortuna and Arenal. Rooms are good in some ways but little things like lighting and drainage in the bathroom could be improved. The restaurant has good food and service. We booked here because the other hotels with hot pools were all booked out so if we came back to Arenal it would not be our first choice but it wouldn't be our last.
