“Henry, you're the best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I stayed at Casa Antigua after an online booking stuff up at another place up the road. Henry made me feel so welcome. The food was a slice of persian heaven. I know people have commented about the noise, but can't say I heard anything between 10.30pm and 4.30am. It is an airport hotel after all! My bed was extremely comfortable and the shower delivered scalding hot water, bliss at the end of a very long day's travelling. Henry, your 'bedouin tent' is as beautiful as the bridal gowns you used to create, I am sure. Thank you for looking after everything. I would recommend for that last night before the early flight! 5 mins to the International airport.

“Much too high price for low budget Motel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011 via mobile

The so called Hotel is more a motel right beside a busy main street and direct under the in- and outbound of the San José airport --- sleep guaranteed only till 5 in the morning, when the first heavy duty truck feels like driving all over you.

The pillow smelled very much from the visitor before and the towels like chloride. The room we got first, wasn't even worth half the price. One side of the about 8 square meters small room was all one big window (Room8) and there were only curtains, which you couldn't really close, because they were to small. The problem was, that there was the way to the parking directly infront of the window. Ergo there was no privacy at all. Early the next morning we requested a better room an also got it. No stinking stuff at last but still felt pretty shabby for the price payed.

The owner had a lot of animals there. Also one dog, which can be found at the parking in a small fenced area, sitting between his own shit. Looks pretty cruel to me.

To make it a bit shorter now: The breakfast is a disaster! Some cereals. Bananas, Peanutbutter and cream. No juice, no cheese, no eggs, no meat or at least water or anything else. I felt like in a bad joke or more like on the hidden camera or a prank show. I expected someone to jump out from beneath the table yelling that this is all a joke. Unfortunately no one did :(

“Great stay”

Everything the last couple of reviewers said is true. The hotel is very cozy and close to the airport. The grounds are very beautiful and the owner Henry built it all himself. He is very passionate about what his does and takes pride in it. The restaurant is not to be missed! We arrived late on Monday and restaurant was closed. Henry went above and beyond to make sure we wouldn't go hungry. He reopened the kitchen just for two of us and prepared the most delicious Persian meals with 2 different stews and home made pita. The food is beyond this world! We enjoyed Henry's company during dinner while he shared his life story and knowledge about Costa Rica. And if you want to partake in the philosophical discussion just invite him for coffee. We would not hesitate to stay at Casa Antigua again.

Room Tip: You can ask to be on the court yard side to avoid the street noise. But signing birds will wake you...

“Supervalue, not to be missed!”

We stayed in Casa Antigua after arriving to Costa Rica for the first time. As everything is new and different at start, we really appreciated our host Henry of taking lots and lots of time to tell us about the country, the customs and the places to visit, most of which you will not find in the guidebook. The hotel interior is beautiful, Henri has designed and crafted most if not all of it by himself. Check out especially the awesome wooden tables in the restaurant/communal area.

The food from the persian menu, many times cooked by Henri himself, is a real treat! We didn't even go to look for a restaurant outside during our stay, so good it was compared to anything we have tried before.

The animals are funny, a dog and a cat and a bird. Our 2-year old daughter loved them! There's also a watchdog keeping the place safe and the front door is locked. So it's very safe. WIFI is working fine.

There's a bus stop just in front of the hotel. The bus takes you either to Alajuela city or to San Jose for few dollars.

This is absolutely THE place to stay when arriving and leaving the country, just 5 mins from the airport.

“Enjoyed it overall but a bit noisy”

The service of this charming guest house is outstanding. Henri, the owner, went out of his way to book a shuttle bus for me to Manuel Antonio. While I was waiting for the shuttle to come, he made me some nice hot tea for me. I stayed here by myself as a solo girl after arriving at the airport late before taking a shuttle to meet my friend. It was a $3 taxi from the airport and it's very convenient to catch a shuttle at the hostel next door. The location is on a very busy street. I heard diesel trucks driving by all night that made the room rattle. I recommend staying here if you can have a room towards the back.
