Hostel Maleku is so convenient I wouldn't stay anywhere else. located literally a 10 minute drive from the airport, and two blocks from the bus station, Hostel Maleku is great. The rooms are clean, they have hot water, good beds. It can be a little noisy because it's right next to the street, but really it's not too big a deal. this isn't the sort of hostel to stay in for days, (though i don't think anyone is really going to alajuela to visit for days, not tourists, anyway), but it's great for arriving and leaving the country. The people were helpful, and the kitchen is well equipped. i strongly recommend this place.

We found the hostel the last night before leaving CR and wished we had known about it earlier. It is absolutely great for travel to and from the airport. They have a free shuttle and it is really close, 10 minutes at most. Forget San Jose, it is a lot further away.

Even though it is tiny, it is really cute and clean. It is really cheap too, it is a great deal for this price. We got there late, so we could get only bunk beds in a room of 6 (there were 3 of us). We wished we had made reservations in advance for a more private room because we kept waking with people getting in late (someone arrived at 3 am) and leaving early, but that was the only inconvenience.

The staff was really nice and helpful. There was a computer with internet, small kitchen, and a small common area with a TV. Basic breakfast with bananas and snacks, to keep you going, was available in the morning.

I highly recommend it for the cleanliness, convenience, and the price.

Close to the airport and includes free airport shuttle. Lots of good books and travel resources. Awesome that there is a computer for all to use. The staff didn't seem too interested in their guests as people, more just for money making. "Breakfast" was coffee, crackers, and bananas.
