“Add to list of Dirty hotels”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

My husband and I checked in to room number 339. We could not help but to notice that the room was not clean. The trash can was full of trash the carpet needed to be vacuumed. In the bathroom there were pieces of hair on the floor along with pieces of trash from a tube of tooth paste. We later called the front desk and complained and we were moved to room number 449. As we entered the room we noticed again that this room was also not clean. The carpet needed to be vacuumed and the linens were dirty on one of the beds. Later that evening a couple attempted to enter our room stating that they were assigned to room number 449. This type of service is just unacceptable.

It wasn't that bad of a hotel, the restaurant service, wasn't that good, though.

“Enjoyed my overall stay, but had a bad experience.”

The site is GREAT!! However, I was assisgned to a room that had been closed for several days or weeks with the A/C running. The room was musty and very humid. The bed linen was damp and the front dest indicated that they could not move me, did not have any or access to fresh / clean linen, and the maintenance team had left for the evening. My wife tried to iron the linen to remove some of the moisture, but the iron had something on it (sticky); front desk stated that they did not have access to other rooms to give me an exchange. So my wife an I slept in the lobby in a chair. The next day, PAT was very helpful in getting an air purifier and a dehumidifier in the room. She also suggested moving us to another builing, but the logistics would be bad. We stuck it out. We emptied the water 2 to 3 time each day. Noticed mold on the shower curtain - reported it. Others attending the Convention indicated good experiences.

“Great Potential but...self-Sabotaging Hotel Managment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2010

First I will mention the good news, which are the only reasons for the hotel not getting a worse rating:

1. The gentleman at the counter on our 1st knight honored the group rate that other hotel staff claimed to know nothing about, concerning annual Tuskegee Fly-in,plus he was curteous to guest.
2. The waitres of the hotel restaurant was very professional and curteous, in spite of having way too much responsibility on herself due to miss-management and misscomunication of management with her and others. I wish I remembered her name so I could publicly thank her. She was there during the memorial day weekend of 2010 (May 28-30th) and was the only waistress I actually saw.
3. Security--although it was a pain sometimes, the hotel elevator needed a key for you to go to any of the floors where guest stay, this proves they are somewhat concerned about security of guest.
4. When we were dissastified with the over-priced food, and in one instance, food not done right, we were promptly and properly re-imbursed. "Props" on that to the manamgent.
5. Good wirless internet
6. The fitness and buinsess centers were well equipped. This hotel has such POTENTIAL for greatness...but

Now for the bad news.

1. In the 3 months from the booking of my stay till actually ariving there, I got slightly different stories on why the group rate for the annual Tuskegee Fly-in was not yet in effect..."not in the computer yet", "we know nothing about this","they never talked to our management", etc! This does not help buisness...seeing as it could drive potential customers away and this ANNUAL event has used the hotel several years in a row! Obvsiously communication is not up to par.
2. The schedule of the hotel restaurant caters to the enrollment schedule of the university instead of the Guest who are staying at the hotel! The manager of the restaurant had to make a "special trip" to open it on our behalf. This is a very foolish buisness choice on the hotel...what kind of hotel does not cater to its customers...but to the college schedule only. There is no major restaruants in Tuskegee itself, so why would the restaurant pass up on a chance to stay open...especially knowing that hotel guest don't want to go all the way to Auburn, AL just to escape fast food?!?!?
3. The hotel food was litterally the HIGHEST, OVERPRICED food that I had ever seen for a hotel...higher than some at 5 star hotels! The Breakfast "Buffet" was $13.00...and lacked some of the stuff you'd expect for that price. Also a 15% "surgcharge" was automatically charged to you for all meals...without you being warned upfront. My wife and I found out because the lady in front of us was hit with this charge on her credit card? The manager smoothed things over by giving us a lot of food the 1st night, but the other times are a different story! Also, a "sea food buffet" for the next night turned out to be a dissaster. The food started off good...when we finally got it...but the one waitress combined with the fact that there weren't but one cook, meant that one of my friends gave up waiting after over 1 hr 15 minutes for his main course....he left some money on the table for the side items that did come...after a long wait... and went upstairs to watch the game in dissapointment.
4. The Ice Machine was broken prior to my Thursday night arrival and was still broken when my wife and I left Sunday Morning! In addition, you can't take the stairs to get more ice on the floors immediately below you...you must take the elevator because the doors in the stair well only open to the lobby area. The elevator is extremely slow.
5. Information dealing with non-college related events and conferences at the hotel was sub par. People were confused over which meeting rooms were reserved for what.
6. At least three times the condiments and supplies to my room weren't fully stocked, the latter time required me to wait over 1 and a half hours for toilet paper! Because the front office wasn't stocked with it, it was "in a differnent department" than the condiments for my room, and the office cleark did NOT have key to get to it?!? So the man at the counter had to call Campus security to get the key to a storage room IN THE HOTEL...so he could get some toilet paper for my room! To add insult to injury, Campus Security can NOT be reached and they NEVER show up! The clerk, after over an hour and a half, get's toilet paper from an empty room for us! Combine that with the fact that there are no refigerators or microwaves in these rooms that are higher priced and that was the last straw. My wife and I checked out over a day earlier than planned. If not for the Tuskegee Fly-In event that Saturday, I would have checked out earlier!

Some of "my own people" may take offence to this as a customer a Black male, and someone who's experianced this type of "slave mentality" by my own before, I have to say it and have EVERY RIGHT TO...I feel the "slave mentality" of how African-Americans treat each other when it comes to buisness...the "Black on Black crime" of sub-par service to each other and overcharging for it such sub par service was alive and well at the hotel.

These folks have self-sabotaged a potentially good ANNUAL relationship! I may support events to honor the Tuskegee Airmen again, but not from that hotel!

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2010

We had a meeting a Tuskegee University, so the Kellogg was suggested as convenient. We would have been better off staying in nearby Auburn, and driving the 15 miles. The Kellogg bills itself as a full service hotel, but their and my opinion of full service differ greatly. There was only 1 desk clerk checking in, so we waited in a line. She was quite nice, and it went smoothly, however more help was clearly needed. We needed to print boarding passes for our flight the next day. Other recent hotel stays have included a complimentary business center (as well as a lower room price), so I was shocked to see a fee for printing. It was a small fee, and would save me time at the airport, so I opted for it. I could not get the fee to go through, so I went to the front desk for help. I was told to call the 800 number, and the clerk walked away. I could not find the number, so I had to trek through the airport to the ticketing area. The room itself was ok, nothing special, with paper thin walls. Temperature was difficult to adjust. the hallway was like a sauna, with heat blasting, on a 40 degree evening. the grout in the bathroom was in dire need of tilex, or a steam cleaning. The restaurant was a disaster. Again, very friendly staff, but i would prefer competent. We sat for quite a while before our dinner order was taken, although the place was nearly empty. We specified that we wanted a plain cheeseburger, and opted to share. It came with unwanted toppings, and took a long time to correct (all that was needed was to replace the top bun). The fries were ice cold due to the wait. Ketchup that was requested when the meal was served incorrectly, was brought in bowls when we were finshed with the meal. other nearby tables had the familiar bottles, so i don't know why the bowls were brought. Drinks were not refilled in a timely manner, and since Pepsi was sitting in a pitcher, it was flat. It is plainly stated that a 15% service charge was added, but it was not earned. There are few choices nearby for meals in the economically depressed surrounding town, so you are at their mercy. Most hotels I have visited recently have included a microwave and frige in the room, (for less money), so I could have brought something from the grocery in Auburn. I wish i had broght something for breakfast. i called for room service and was put on hold for 20 minutes. I went down to the restaurant, to place a to go order, and saw the same server :(. I asked another server to take the order and he seemed confused by my request. I wanted 2 orders of 2 eggs listed on the menu and website as $1.50 each, plus 2 orders of bacon $1.99 each, and 2 glasses of juice. $1.25 each. I was told they only had a buffet, which was more than $10 per person. by this time, we would have been late for a meeting, nor did we want a buffett, even without the expensive price. We left angry and hungry. If I find the need to visit Tuskegee again, I will commute from Auburn. While I appreciate the historic significance of the area, i did not appreciate being charged a non-disclosed "historic fee", even though it was only $2. it justed added insult to injury.
