I have been to Tuscaloosa many times for Alabama sporting events, but had never managed to have enough time to visit Cypress Inn. From now on, if I am in Tuscaloosa for an overnight trip, I will definitely be visiting this place. Our server was excellent. Very nice, fast and efficient. He was on top of everything and had great suggestions. My wife and I like to share things in order to have a wider variety of food when we dine together. The meal started out with a basket of bread. Oh my! There were raisin bran muffins (to die for!) along with some small yeast rolls of some sort. Might have been the best bread basket ever laid in front of me. They even gave us the raisin bran muffin recipe on the way out. On this night we shared the appetizer combo. It came with a nice amount of each item...fried catfish fingers, fried blue crab claws, boiled shrimp, roasted chicken strips with white sauce, and fried crawfish tails. It was all very very good! It was $14. Then we decided on the Bacon Wrapped Beef Filet. It is a 6 oz filet that was was cooked Medium to perfection. It was great! For our sides we chose the country club squash which was very cheesy and had a wonderful cracker crumb crust that made it a perfect addition to the mashed potatoes we chose as our additional side.
We were very pleasantly surprised! We had been told it was a little over-rated, but I don't agree! It was perfect in every way!
They do take reservations, but not same day. The do have 30 minute call ahead seating which got us right in with no wait. It was busy! Get there early and arrive hungry! You will love it!
Oh, and I almost forgot...the restaurant is located right on the Black Warrior river which made for some excellent sunset views. Definitely ask for a table on the window!!
