“Don't go near this place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2006

From the moment we pulled into the junked up parking lot, I had a feeling this was going to be a bad experience. It was during Mardi Gras and there wasn't a lot of people there. Now I know why. Parking lot had potholes. The lobby reaked of mildew. The staff was very rude. Our room wasn't ready until 3 HOURS after they said we could check in. The bathrooms had hair all over the place. Traces of body hair on the sheets and the TV's didn't work. On top of all that, there was a diesel truck parked right under our window that was running all night. We ended up sleeping on top of the bedspread and promptly checked out the next morning.

Blood on our pillow cases and who knows what on the sheets. Glad we checked them before getting into bed.Only two channels on the tv, both fuzzy. Telephone in our room did not work. Front desk made out of plywood. Huge cracks in our rooms walls, Damage from the last storm never repaired.Desk clerk said that the new owners had no money to make the repairs. No sign in front of hotel,it blew away in the last storm. If this place survives Katrina, Stay away!!!

“Amityville on the Bay!”

We arrived around 1:00 pmJune 24, 2005 after a 14 hour trip from Texas at the Las Brisas on the BaySpanish Fort . We had reserved one room 2 double beds No Smoking for two adults and 2children age 5 and 1yr through Expedia. We were told that we could not check in yet, so we decided to visit a friend and told the front desk we would be back in a few hours and they assured us they would have our room ready. When we returned around 6:00p.m. we were given the key to a room on the third floor, when we opened the door, the air conditioner was sitting in the middle of the room, torn apart. I went back down, with luggage and baby and was told the only other room available was a smoking room Since my grandson has asthma, this was not an aption. I told them we could not use the smoking room and asked for the manager as the two girls at the desk were very rude . The manager came out and apoligized and sent us up to the fifth floor, as we were walking over to the elevator, the two girls at the desk were making rude remarks and talking about us and pointing at us as if we had done something wrong. We went to the room on the fifth floor, and the carpet in front of the bathroom was flooded- water ran over the tops of our shoes.
We then went back down to the front desk, and asked for a refund. I had to use the desk phone to call Expedia, where I was on the phone for 30 minutes, trying to find another room in town and get the charges refunded for this nightmare. The girls at the front desk were still acting as rude as possible. My grandson was crying and tired .
This hotel is a farce ! It is nothing like what it depicts on the internet. The carpet is old, stained and stinks, the pool is dirty the walls are mildewed, paint is peeling and the front desk has a rough piece of plywood for the counter, that has splinters while you sign in ! I am 52, have traveled all over the U.S. and NEVER have I had such an experience at a hotel and been treated so atrociously!! P.S the view of the bay on the back side is littered with what looks like old garbage and furniture (Probably from the storm last summer) that has never been hauled away.

“Dirtiest Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2005

This was the dirtiest place I have ever stayed. The outside of the hotel looked bad when we pulled up, but once inside all doubt as to cleanliness was removed. The workers didn't care about any of the complaints we had. We had ten families that stayed at the hotel. Two of the families were moved three times before they got a room where the air conditioning worked. The room had not been vacuumed in a long time. We wore our shoes the entire time we were in the room. Behind the desk were beer cans and trash. The bedspread had blood all over it (on the side that touches the blanket and the sheets). Our friends in the room next to us actually fecies in their room. Each room received two free breakfasts, but we wouldn't eat there because if the rooms are that nasty, there is no telling how dirty the kitchen is. The shower curtain was so nasty that we didn't even shut it when we showered.

“Problems, probably won't stay here again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2005

Before coming to Las Brisas to join others at a conference held there, I read the reviews I could find. There were only two and they were bad. They had both been written after the bad storm had passed through and comments reflected its effects. So, I went there with an open mind, promising the manager that I would give a good review if it was worthy.

The elevators had been repaneled and were clean with no bad smell. The lobby was in the process of being remodeled as the entire first floor had been damaged by the storm. They are located in a unique location, but its very location leaves it vulnerable to any big storm in the area.

Upon checkin, I found the other part of the suite had never been cleaned after the previous guest. We were promised it were be cleaned immediately and went across the street for a late lunch (yum!). We returned to find the room had not been cleaned and were told by one employee we would have to move if we wanted a suite. At the desk they said we would not have to move and they would see the room would be cleaned. It was about four hours after we checked in. The whole place seemed a bit care-worn and the carpets in the halls were not laid well. But our room was comfortable and the bed was comfy.

The restaurant served an adequate breakfast, though service was a little slow. This poor place is cursed with too many chiefs and not enough indians as some of the cleaning ladies were pulling double shifts. Up to date computer info for all the rooms, but not always accurate as to what had been done to the rooms. Plenty of parking and close to the USS Alabama.

We were overcharged for the PA system and many of the members of our group complained of dirty rooms and some even moved to other hotels. The pool had not been cleaned yet, but at that time of year, no one cared. The staff were pleasant and tried to please.
