This hotel was advertised as Australian touch!
No way.......when we arrived at check in no one bothered to great us with even a hello.
there were 4 staff at reception and it took at least 3 minutes for someone to even look at us.

We had travelled all day from Melbourne and did not expect this from a hotel in any country.
After checking us in....with pretty much no words....i just handed over the usual documents expected by hotels around the world [passports and credit card], they simply handed back our room card.

I asked a very simple question.....how far is the train station [which it sells itself on being the closest hotel to].....we then found out not one staff member spoke english!!
they all went on laughing that we asked something in english and they had no idea how to answer us.
Why would they sell this on an Australian touch if no english is spoken.
The last I looked we speak English.

the only reference to Australia at the hotel was a small poster in the lift!
thank god for Iphone apps......it saved me in the end when we simply wanted to order something to eat.

Breakfast what a joke!
Floaties in the apple juice......no western food.....oh if you call mixed left over cereals in one container western style food then thats what you get.
i am not one to really complain but this was a huge disappointment!
Give it a miss........you are better off being a little further from the airport or train station and pay that little extra for the taxi.

Hotel is OK, but it's location is no longer any good. Just 100m from Terminal 1/Hongqiao, it is very inconvenient unless you're flying on Spring Airlines (most flights leave from Terminal 2). To get to Term 2, you have to take a bus that leaves at most every 15 minutes (around a 10 minute trip).

Location-wise, it'd be much better just to get any one of the number of hotels on the Green Line that drops you off at the terminal 2.

The hotel was OK. I didn't eat there, so no idea about that. Staff was helpful. Other than location, it was a nice hotel.

The Argyle is ok for an overnight and very convenient for Hongqiao Airport. The rooms are reasonably well appointed but the a/c is very hit and miss with just a fan control, no temp selector and a system that is turned on and off at will by the hotel. The Chinese only know rock hard mattresses and this hotel is no exception....you will probably be more comfortable sleeping on the floor as at least the carpet has a little cushioning. At the end of my weeks stay I had a rash around my thighs and legs from the bed, which took a week to clear once I returned home. A prerequisite for any airport hotel must surely be good sound proofing - The Argyle has the most substandard window installations I have ever seen in a hotel, providing absolutely no sound insulation whatsoever. Food was mediocre at best and the western restaurant was closed most evenings I was there. Unless you really need to be at the airport I would suggest staying at one of the quality hotels in town and taking a cheap 15 min taxi ride (£4)
