“Business Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I don't understand the bad reviews here. I've stayed many many nights in this hotel as a Tour Leader, and never really had a problem! Even in very busy time during the Shanghai Expo they always tried their best to help all the guests.

Sure you don't expect a kitchen and a washing machine in your room at all, but this hotel is made a hotel for long stay business people. That's why location is not so convenient if you are there on tourism purpose! And this is also the ONLY reason why I didn't rate this hotel as being "excellent".

Breakfast is Awesome. Rooms are furnished enough. If you want to go on the balcony you just have to call the reception and they will send someone within 10 minutes. They close it for safety reasons, which I can perfectly understand when I was on my balcony on the 28th floor!!

If you are looking for a good hotel in HONGQIAO area (so not central) This one is certainly a good choice!

Already have a few nights booked there for 2012...

Room Tip: Ask for higher floors, views are magnificent up there

“Far Below Expectations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

person found this review helpful

We didn't expect a lot from this hotel. We read some reviews and already knew that it was not a real 5* but we though that it could be worth visiting...

Check in was OK. The bellboys didn't help us to bring our luggage to our room... The room was really dark with (useless) kitchen facilities, the bed wasn't a real queen size bed and the (small) bathroom was suppose to be shower+bath was a shower in a bath !!!! I went to Renaissance Zhongshan Park (one metro station away), there they say that they are a 4* and the service, room quality, etc was 10 times better !
The hotel is far away from the metro and taxi is the only solution. They also tell you that you will have skyline views of Shanghai.. and all we saw was the ugly buildings around.

The main restaurant has an amazing location but the service is not good. The (rare) waiters were not really focused and the quality of the food was not outstanding for the price. In China, for this price you expect much more...

good point : they speak english... but it was the least we could ask them

All in all : it is not a 5* but average 3*, don't waste your money going there.. there are hundreds of better hotels in Shanghai

“An Average Mercure Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Location is not good, need to catch a taxi to get around the city.
Had a wash machine & micro-wave oven in the room which is very convenient for the family with kids.
Staffs are friendly & helpful.
Will stay there again.

“There are better hotels in better locations in Shanghai”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Stayed here for a seminar in April 2011 and the hotel was certainly adequate but nothing special. It is not near anything within walking distance and Taxi's can struggle to find the place. Rooms are average at best not a very good value for money. I was here because an event was held here but I would not stay again given the opportunity as Shanghai certainly has many better hotels to offer in better locations.

“Great Hotel with room for improvement”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I really enjoyed my stay and I think the GM does a great job responding to each review.

I travel a lot. Here are a couple of thoughts to help enhance the guest experience.

1) the people in the bar area should look around and pay attention to guest sitting down. The hotel could make more money if the bar attendants would ask if the guest wanted something to drink ( unless this is a no-do in Chinese customs), same with re-fills. The bar tenders are too busy talking to each other, than noticing a guest.

2) if a guest accidentally brakes a glass in the room, why does the hotel put it on the bill at check out. It's not like I broke everything. It was an accident. I personally have never experienced such a move in any country I have been traveling to.

3) the bath-rooms: there is no way a woman has enough light, or a conveniently located mirror for daily make-up purpose.

See you all on my next visit.
