This is a hotel for the locals. If you are foreigner visiting, you will definitely not be impressed.

The hotel is busy since it is close to a major Chinese telecom company and their employees and partners can get a discount rate here. As a result, it is very difficult to get a non-smoking room. If you are a non-smoker in a room where smoking is allowed, it is absolutely a nightmare. All the furniture and clothe has a layer of smoke. The carpet is also very smokey.

I also find the elevator very smokey. This is surprising because I don't think you can smoke either in the elector or in the lobby. But then again, this is Asia where there is little smoking etiquette.

If you are here to visit customers near by, then the location is okay. However, there is not much else around the hotel. You will have a hard time getting into most restaurants around here after 8:30PM. Most restaurants close at 9PM but the kitchen is closed at 8:30PM. They will not let you in.

Other than third hand smoke problems, I also find this hotel much dirtier than other hotels I have been in. Carpet is dirty. Mats is dirty. If feels unsafe not to wear slippers here.

Comfort-wise, this hotel ranks quite low. The bed is hard and not cushioned. The washroom is small, especially the shower. The shower is a complete disaster. The show door is not sealed and leaves 2 large gaps on both sides. This being a very small shower stall, the washroom will get water everywhere.

While there is a fitness room, it is very pathetic with very little equipment. You find some locals working out with their dress shoes...

I will not stay here ever again myself.

After my company's business trip coordinator booked my colleagues and me for 4 nights in this hotel I've read some of the latest reviews here and got very anxious...
Well i was totally surprised to find a very nice hotel with big rooms (deluxe, 60$ per night) with a decent breakfast (continental, fresh vegetables, eggs, bread, sausages, juices, etc).
indeed it's quite far from Shanghai center (~40-50 Yuan taxi fare, ~20-30 Mins) but it is very close to the high-tech business area i was going every day.
Didn't encounter any issues with hotel's administration and definitely not the Chinese Mafia.
Make sure you have your POI in advance as the directions we got from the "English speaker" guest guide was a bit accurate not to say WAY WAY OFF 8-)
Notice that in my room there was no WiFi but only Ethernet socket so you need to tweak your cellphone if required.

This hotel management like chinese mafia,very unhonest ,we checked in at 11pm 23 persons on group tour,at 6 am morning call,at 7 am luggage outside hotel room,and we went down for breakfast,and we planed to go at 8 am,but during breakfast,our tour leader searching one family,so they stopped the breakfast because this hotel asked for compensation because two big towels and a small towell loss,after that the reception made a correction,and told us that 2 bigtowels are too dirty so can not use it again.And after stopping their breakfast,both of my groupfriend went upstair to the room again,with the reception officer for checking these bath towels>
The reality was,the tow big bath towels is normal,and one small bath towell was found in the bed.Because this trouble our groups delayed for 45 minutes,and loss breakfast time.In my opinion the management of this hotel is equally bad as thieves in shanghai Nanjing road.They tried hard to cheat us,so every body who stay in this hotel should be carefully,this is a chinese mafia management,better to avoid

I have travelled quite a bit in China, and yes I have stayed at worse places. However if you expect a certain quality due to a brand name, even the budget brandname like Best Western, then keep away. The problem I suspect is poor staff training e.g. the used teacups in your room are put away nicely - however they haven't been cleaned, and I mean not even emptied of the fluid or teabag! The bench hasn't been wiped down and has progressively got stickier. The bathroom countertop does not look clean - I put a towel over it. Restaurant staff do not have a clue. I bought my own teabags as the hotel does not have western teabags available for you to buy i.e. it is not on the menu. How about hot water for the teabags I take down to dinner and breakfast - the cold "hot" water was replaced at least but it is impossible to get a teapot or a pot of hot water. How about seating people at your small table without asking you. Those black fluff that I brushed off the bed yesterday are still on the floor. Did they change the sheets - I don't know but the pillow cases have been slept on before if the crinkles are anything to go by - hopefully just by me. I know its just a best western so I wasn't expecting a lot. Note that it does not have a swimming pool although it does have a small gym. If you like to unpack at all - the rooms have no (as in zero) drawers.
