The company I visited booked the Gubei Garden Hotel for me. I had not stayed here before and if I can avoid it I will not stay here again. The hotel building as such is fairly new but already shows the wear and tear signs that show mediocre management (stains in carpets, knocked door frames etc.) The hotel staff is very unfriendly. They do not provide any assistance such as maps or help in getting around. The breakfast buffet is mediocre; flatware and dinnerware is incomplete (no saucer for coffee cup, no tea spoon, no soup spoon. Eat your cereal with a Chinese ceramic soup spoon). Today the staff started noisily clearing out the breakfast room while guests including myself were still there. Very obvious sign of disrespect. The rooms are actually quite nice and the high speed internet works. The location requires that you are being picked up and dropped off. This hotel is not close to a subway station and fairly far away from the Bund. You can however walk to a Carefour store within 15 minutes if you don't mind the traffic and the dirty side walks. There are other hotels close by such as the Millenium Hotel Shanghai which I think are better options if you want to stay in this area.
