Stayed one night in Shanghai. We were able to check in as soon as we arrived in the morning from an early morning flight. The location in East Nanjing Road was easy walking distance to the Bund, also there are plenty of taxis in the area. The location is busy, viobrant, noisy and exciting. The room for two was of adequate size for a night, with a shower over the bath. The beds were typically hard Asian style. The view outside showed a balcony which was not accessible from the room and was dirty and untidy. Reception staff and porters were helpful, also staff in the cafe/bar.

My husband and I had stayed in this hotel last year. We got to know a staff member Liu Shao Wei, a friendly and helpful man, a gem the hotel should be proud of. The other staff members are very considerate too. This year we made reservation from Singapore through Liu Shao Wei. He as usual was very kind and helped us to book a room with a computer. We were received by him and he took great pains to see to our comfort. Later he changed our room to a brighter one and bigger one at the same price. He told us all about the expo and even invited us to his house to meet his family members.The other staff are polite and did their best to serve us.We would certainly recommend this hotel to our friends. It has the feel of Shanghai in the early 19s and this is exactly what we like.

My partner and I booked this hotel through Agoda for a 3 night stay during Expo in Shanghai. We received a confirmation from Agoda for our reservation, and noted we would be checking in late as our flight arrived after midnight. Our credit card was also charged.

After a long trip, we arrived at the hotel to be greeted by a "trainee" front desk associate who informed us that they had no rooms available despite our reservation. He said that he had accepted the Agoda request and had booked us in at another hotel nearby instead. The hotel he had booked for us was the nearby Nanjing Hotel which was not the same caliber hotel as Seventh Heaven, even though the trainee insisted that it was- obviously this was the old "bait and switch" tactic and were not being fooled. We advised that we would not be staying at Nanjing as we had paid Agoda through credit card for Seventh Heaven. We tried to negotiate by asking for part of our money to be refunded for compensation in staying in the dumpier hotel and were refused. The employee called the manager and had a long conversation about the situation- he looked frustrated but said we had 2 choices:
1. Stay in the dumpier hotel- no price compensation
2. Pay for the night in seventh heaven and come back tomorrow to get a refund.

Again, we refused. By this time it was after 3am and we suggested that we wait until the first customer checked out of the hotel in the morning and they could make up the room and compensate us for the following night. The trainee called the manager and said we would have to wait until 8-9am until the manager came into work and he would decide whether we would have a room. They said they were already booked full for that night as well.

We never saw a room in the hotel so cannot comment on the quality, but we would not recommend staying here due to the shady business practices of the staff and manager. We were treated very poorly and ended up not sleeping at all that night as we had to find another hotel (we finally got one at 10am).

I have used this place umpteen times and it is a favourite because of its location, roomy rooms, clean linen, friendly doormen and helpful staff. The price is great but I still cannot negotiate a discount!!
