“A five star hotel with great breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

I have stayed in this hotel (members floor) on mid-December, 2011 . The following is my review:

Upsides:

- Great breakfast with variety of selections, both eastern and western food. Different type of dim sum in each basket, many choices, staff are helpful, and I enjoyed eating there.

- Seems to make everything more upscale, such as scale with cover, extra toilet paper in a bag, bathroom supplies all located in a box, try to make you feel like a "Rich Man", the hotel name in chinese.

- Central remote control, such as lighting, heating level. Some elder customers may prefer old fashion way by turning on and off individual switches instead of using remote control.

Downsides:

- Having difficulty to access one of the room by the access cards, need to reprogrammed, but it also happened in some hotels which I visited before and I commented in this web site previously too.

- Plumbing issue: Toilet drainage issue, called up staff, came in quickly, the cleaner came in first and then called up Engineering Dept to do plumbing. All staff are friendly and helpful.

With the plumbing and other minor improvements, I think this is an excellent hotel.

“Good Hotel”

Stayed here for almost 2 weeks in August for business trip.
Overall, the hotel was good, clean & good service. Wifi available in the room & many areas of the hotel.
The room was comfortable with separate shower/bath & toilet.
The Gym is very big & there isn't many people using it. At the gym, the spa has good sauna & steam room. I spent a lot of time here during my stay.
Breakfast was OK, the breakfast buffet closes exactly at 10am & they start clearing out the food at 9:45 am.
Nearby the hotel, there are convenience stores & restaurants that are open late.
Overall, it was a comfortable stay & I would stay there again.

“Hotel good for French Concession, but terrible plumbing and bed.”

Stayed here together with some customers.
Facilities and service is fine. However, the plumbing is shockingly bad. Whenever I showered the bathtub would clog up, despite my requests for them to fix the blockage.
In addition the mattress was lopsided and though comfortable enough, one had a tendency to roll to one side.
Would advise against staying here until they fix this.

“Mediocre at best....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Upon entering this hotel, it seemed like it was very nice. At the end of our stay, we were glad to leave because of the many problems we had here. Our room was nice at first glance. However, when I looked at the bed, I couldn't believe what I saw. It appeared that housekeeping had run out of sheets for our king size bed, so instead tried to fit a sheet for a single bed on our king. The mattress and mattress pad were showing on the side. The sheet didn't even cover the top of the bed. Ugh. No way was I going to sleep on that and couldn't believe it was left that way. My husband called down to the front desk and told them about the problem and asked that they send housekeeping up to fix it. The answer was "ok". We went out and came back about 2 hrs. later. It had not been fixed! He called again and this time we waited. No one came. After 45 minutes, we went down to the desk and again explained the problem. Then it became obvious that no one had a clue as to what we wanted (English problem). Finally we asked for a manager who came back with us to the room. He took one look at the bed and called for housekeeping. They came immediately, changed the sheet, and it was fine although it took several hours to accomplish this.

Now to the bathroom. It was small and had a combination tub/shower. Every time we went in there, we found a puddle of water on the floor. Something was leaking (never could figure out what it was), and that problem was never fixed. Then there was the toilet. When it was flushed, it just ran and ran and ran. It would never have stopped if we had not jiggled the handle up and down. And we had to do this every time. What a nuisance.

We ate dinner at the buffet. There were lots of choices all presented nicely. However, we noticed that some items were never replenished when they ran out. Because of that, we didn't get to try some things that we had wanted. And it wasn't because it was late and near closing time. It was not. Service was also lacking.

The breakfast buffet was large and well stocked except that there was a problem in getting more coffee. Service was worse than at dinner.....

Would not stay here again. Surely there are better choices in a city this large.
