Arrived early morning after travelling by train from Xian and was provided with a room for the day while a non-smoking room became available in the afternoon. Was very pleased with this.

We stayed in a club room which was comfortable with good bedding and tv. However the bathrooms have a glass wall into the room which is weird and although there is a blind that can be closed it means that if one person gets up to go to the bathroom the light being turned on goes directly onto the bed.

Found the club breakfast average - average selection of food and average service.

The club drinks were a good start to the night however the service was very hit and miss - we stayed for 4 nights and some nights had constant attention and top ups and on others we were left with empty glasses unless we called over a waiter. We saw one table that had their own bottle of wine but we were told this was not allowed. One guest that helped themselves to the wine selection had the right idea.

Concierge service was excellent as was assistance in obtaining a taxi at the lobby with instructions given to the driver as to our destination.

The location of the hotel was the main drawcard- an easy walk to the bund and the train station.

Food/service excelent as always but bathroom not up to standard with no separate shower. RMB120/day internet over the top when all other hotels in China we stayed at were free. Laundry and drinks also very expensive. Very convenient with Metro so close, it even rumbled in the coffee shop!

I always stay at the Sofitel and with that you expect a certain standard. Unfortunately unless you get a club floor room the rooms are very old and very tired. A Sofitel room should never be allowed to reach this state. I don't expect the rooms to be new but to a certain standard. Unfortunately the first room they gave me looked an old 3 star room at best. After complaining the staff tried to upgrade me to a club floor for an extra charge which I rejected then they upgraded me at no charge after a long conversation with the duty manager. All too much trouble really when i all wanted to do is get on with my day.
Food quality was very good.
