Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is one of the best hotels I've stayed and this hotel has "WOW effect" for everything.
Lobby: very elegant, classic with chandelier. Heritage wing with well operated old type of elevator.
Room: clean, full electronic control from the toilet, light controller, window dimming system, comfortable bed, pillow, nespresso machine, branded bathroom amenities
Location: right at the centre of the Bund. There are some restaurants around, near shopping place, tourist spots.
Food: great variety of breakfast foods (eggs benedict, croissant), great dim sum at hotel chinese restaurant
Facilities: indoor heated pool with whirlpool, modern gym, library incl DVD movies

Top notch luxurious hotel, very recommended and look forward to come back staying at this hotel.

Had a great stay here a few weeks ago as a diamond member for a single night before going back to Europe. The hotel appeared to be quiet but using a free night certificate we received;
- Room at the top of the new tower with a spectacular view of Shanhai's Pudong area (the famous view)
- 1000 bonus points
- Free welcome drinks (up to 100CNY value per person, 2 people)
- Free breakfast in the hotel restaurant (which was delicious, eggs on order and the eggs benedicts was delicious and served with very nice hash browns)

Similar to many we had issues with taxis finding the hotel enterence, we were dropped on the bund (as we knew where the hotel was and pointed it out) only to find reception was the other side of the building which is a long walk away. However the bellboy took our bags so it wasn't too bad and by the time we reached the main desk the checkin staff knew our name and were waiting for us, we were offered checkin in the room but skipped it.

I'd come back here in a heartbeat with my free night certificates, perhaps even paying for a special treat. The room itself included welcome desert sweets (light meringues), biscuits and little white chocolate balls. In addition one thing I especially liked about the room was the electronics - the electronics next to the bed controlled lights/blinds/room buttons, and the toilet was japanese style (heated with lots of magic buttons to press).

Stayed eight nights and was perfection top to bottom.

Excellently appointed rooms. True 5 star materials. Electronic toilet! Nespresso machine in room. Go for a River View Room. Good location for all tourist attractions as it allows you to walk up and down the Bund to various main streets of interest. Museums and centre of town only a short cab ride away or a 20 min walk. Cabs in Shanghai are reliable though some drive like a maniac with no seat belts available, esp. to and from airport.

Pool was too cool in winter and jacuzzi not in use - very poor for a Waldorf image and disappointing after a cold day out and about and for this price range. We've stayed at the Peninsular HK and the pool was always a welcoming environment to relax.

It has an 8 pillow menu, so remember to ask for it. We didn't unfortunately, and was not aware of it at the time so we had firm pillows for 3 nights. The entrance, lobby and feel is very business-like but the concierge was good and showed a personal touch. Staff were generally courteous and professional. English language skills of staff hit and miss - can be better for a Waldorf. Air-con not very quiet at all. Can do better with this.
