Having reviewed this property in 2010 and been fairly critical then, I find it only correct to give an update. I have stayed umpteen times since then and must give credit where it is due. The management has done a very good job with the quality of their staff who are friendly and communicative and really do their best with English. I always stay in the Club tower and the rooms are still very good. Still have the occasional issue with airco but no longer the overheating I had at the beginning. The quality of the food at breakfast and evening snacks in the club lounge has improved considerably. I am not a big fan of the other F&B outlets and tend to head to one of the many other fantastic Shanghai options, although you do have to get a cab due to the location. One other tip: I like the convenienceof Baron Kay's tailor in the main tower; may be a bit more expensive than other options in the city but if you are staying at the hotel you can just pop in for fittings when required and the suits and shirts they have doen for me have all been good quality.

We had booked three standard rooms on Club floor. On check in, there was some problem with the quoted rate that took a while to sort out. To compensate, the Duty Manager upgraded all three of us to an enormous 120 m² corner suite. A nice welcome!
The suite was very beautiful with every imaginable comfort. The impressive bathroom had an oversized Jacuzzi, double wash basin and a large rain shower. One small negative note: water pressure in the shower was insufficient, a common phenomenon in most Shanghai hotels.
Their club floor is located in a separate wing; I has an impressive lobby where they also serve high tea. On the first floor is the lounge; at happy hour they serve a generous buffet of canapés, paired with some very fine French wines, white and red.
Service is excellent: staff is very friendly and professional, the breakfast on club floor is very good, but it is worthwhile to have breakfast at the normal hotel buffet, where the buffet choice is overwhelming, definitely a must do.
Overall the hotel is very beautifully decorated with high ceilings and polished marble floors that give the place an atmosphere of space and grandeur.
This is definitely one of the nicest Interconti’s in the region.

I stay in this hotel often for business. Great room-very big in size, well-equipped. Love the Nespresso machine. Tasteful decor. The sichuan restaurant in the hotel is awesome. Breakfast is pretty good-though nothing exciting-but for sure above average standard.

Only cons I can think of:
1. not so convenient location
2. the neighborhood is not so great
3. Swimming pool is often closed for maintenance-- if you don't stay in the club tower, but in another tower you will have to wear your swimsuit walk across the lobby to get to club tower's lift lobby to go up to the swimming pool--very strange arrangement
4. The lighting in the hotel is overly dim--even in daytime

Otherwise, a pretty good hotel in general.

Stayed at the club tower in early Dec.for 5 nghts. I stayed there based on previous Trip Advisor reviews and I was not dissapointed. Bed was amazingly comfortable, big screen HDTV, super nice bathrooms with tv in mirror, automatic toilets, super nice rain shower, automatic blinds, huge roman bathtub. The bkfst and cocktail hour at the Club Lounge was excellent but the Bkfast at the main Restaurant was superb!!! The gym had very good weight machines, treadmills and ellipticals facing a nice indooor pool area. There was even a golf simulator to practice your swing. The service level at the Restaurant and Club Lounge was excellent. The only negative thing was the view out of my bedrrom window. It was facing a rundown neighborhood.
