“Delightful hidden retreat on Alabama's Eastern Shore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2008

This lovely house is perfect for a 5-night stay if you want peace and quiet, which we did. Innkeepers Mary and Greg are delightful and Mary provides yummy brunch each morning so you won't want another meal until dinner.

If you want to take advantage of this delightful retreat in the woods, better hurry as innkeepers are trying to sell the property due to timing of opening in 2004 (Hurricane Ivan), 2005 (Katrina), and current economic downturn.

It's sad we didn't find this bed & breakfast sooner as we would visit every year.

“Southern Hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2008

We booked to stay for 4 nights in July but travelled late from Memphis which resulted in missing the first night, we rang explaining we would be late and Mary said e should still arrive early the morning after to enjoy our breakfast.
We stayed in the Garden room and found the time at Montrose a very enjoyable experience. This is our 5th visit to the USA and found the Southern States so be the most friendly area we have stayed in.
Mary helped making the visit memorable.

“Peaceful, Comfy, & Close to Everything”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2008

We just returned from 5 nights here and found Montrose Hideaway to be an awesome place to stay. We like quiet and peaceful and that's exactly what we go at the inn. The pictures of the exterior don't really tell you how gorgeous the interior is. The Grand Master bedroom was huge and had a huge bathroom as well with 2 separate sinks, garden tub, and walk-in shower. We also loved the two cat "hosts" at the inn, though you couldn't tell that were cats in the house most of the time. There were a lot of large windows, so the inn had a sort of open feel even though it was very secluded. Two stone fireplaces had fake fires going (not even gas), so gave the coziness and crackle of a fireplace without adding any heat. The guest information room had plenty of brochures and coupons, so we enjoyed planning our day's adventures by browsing there.

Breakfasts are served at 9:00, which gave us a slower pace in the morning and time to just wake up slowly. This suited us to a tee! Every breakfast was enough to hold you to way into the afternoon and was just delicious. Start with fresh fruits, any kind of juice you want, incredible chocolate gravy over biscuits or wonderful muffins, and then the main dish! We had quiche, stuffed french toast, etc. which also came with a side meat such as bacon or sausage. We enjoyed having the hosts eat breakfast with us, along with the other guests. The relaxed pace seemed to suit all of the guests. My husband would have enjoyed brewed coffee earlier in the morning though.

The inn had beautiful grounds and I bet are just gorgous when the azaleas bloom in the spring. We enjoyed a walk to the spring-fed pond and taking pictures of the landscaping. With around 11 acres, there's plenty of room to roam. You can't hardly tell there's anyone else around, so seclusion is how you feel and we loved that! (No hustle or bustle at this inn.)

BUT, just drive a couple of miles and you're in the middle of everything! Mobile was maybe 15 minutes away and we enjoyed seeing the USS Alabama and the fine seafood restaurants on Hwy. 90. Felix's was incredible. Maybe 30 minutes south and we were at Gulf Shores and the beautiful beaches. In between, we found a unique place in the Pitcher Plant Bog at Week's Bay. Being avid photo-takers, this place gave us some incredible pictures of the plants. We drove to Pensacola one day (maybe an hour) and loved the Naval Air Museum (free) there. Fascinating place! The Pensacola beaches were just a short drive from there, so we took in more beach sights. One day we took the ferry to Dauphin Island and saw dolphins, pelicans, gulls, and Ft. Gaines on the island. All of this was within a fairly short drive. Of course, don't miss the excellent park and pier in Fairhope just 10 minutes away and the Punta Clara Candy Kitchen in Point Clear. Lots of shops in Fairhope and Outlets in Foley, but we mostly enjoyed the out-of-the way places like Stacey's Rexall drugs in Foley where everything looks like it used to be at an old fashioned drug store. My husband loved their tomato and egg salad sandwiches.

Ok - enough of my rambling, but you get the picture that this was a wonderful place to stay and I'm betting we'll be back there again. Hosts Mary and Greg made you feel like family and were very accommodating. We thank them for such a great place to stay!

“Beautiful!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2008

This was a very peaceful and enjoyable place to stay. Comfortable bed, great big wonderful breakfast and helpful owners. I felt very "at home" at this B&B. Half the time I didn't even feel like I needed to leave to enjoy myself in Alabama. They serve a later breakfast so you don't have to get up so early.

I am trying to get my parents to go back with me.

Daphne and Fairhope are beautiful and well kept cities. Good resteraunt to go to : The Original Oyster House.

Thanks for a great stay, Greg and Mary!!

“Heavenly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2008

My husband and I were looking for a place to get away from all of the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We decided to try a B&B for the first time this year to celebrate my Birthday. We didn't have any expectations but we did expect something different from a Hotel. We were blown away with Mary and Gregs hospitality. I requested a nice picnic to be in our room for the first night stay. It was wonderful. She asked what I wanted by email and upon our arrival it was there. We didn't have to leave the house for anything that night and that is exactly what we wanted. The grounds were lovely. The pond was absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere was splendid. We slept in the Grand Room where the bed was made for wonderful DREAMS and the Garden Tub was just SERENE. Mary's breakfast was awesome. The Chocolate Gravy was very tasty along with the Hot Biscuits. Everything was presented in such a lovely fashion. Mary and Greg ate breakfast with us both mornings. This was our first stay at a Bed and Breakfast and I must say we are hooked. We truly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to get away to the Hideaway again. It it truly......Heaven on Earth!

  • Liked — The overal inn was fabulous!
