We stayed at The Courtyard following an Auburn football game played 50 miles down the road. The reasons were simple: it's a short drive from Auburn to save a whole lot of money on a hotel room, and it is conveniently located just off I-85 in the eastern section of Montgomery. Our $76 AAA rate was a pretty good value compared to surrounding properties.
Sadly, we'll probably remember our night at The Courtyard mostly for the noise. The walls were thick enough, but a door to the adjoining room wasn't nearly so. At 3AM, our next door neighbor was watching TV and we could hear about every word that was said. Initially, we just assumed he had turned up the TV volume. Nope! After trying in vain to sleep, I finally went next door and politely asked him to turn down the sound. It turns out the TV really wasn't all that loud; it was just the sound traveling through that door between the rooms. The poor guy was actually surprised that his TV was keeping anybody awake. The hotel obviously has an issue with the soundproofing between adjoining rooms.
Customer service was cause for concern, as well. While it was certainly speedy and professional at check in and check out, it was nonexistent during the night. Before knocking on the next door neighbor's room myself, I tried to leave the issue with the front desk -- their hotel, their customers. But they never answered the phone. We had an annoyance, but what if it had been an emergency?
Otherwise, the place is nice. Pleasant rooms, comfortable beds, and attractive grounds. Without the noise, both from next door and the hallway, I would have had no complaints. But we were at The Courtyard primarily for sleep, and that was somewhat difficult during our stay. Until the noise situation is resolved, there are better options in the immediate area.
