I stayed at the La Quinta in Montgomery for a single night having made a reservation online. Reading older reviews I had heard about two La Quintas in close proximity but this is about as extreme as it gets - the two actually share a parking lot. So before checking in or making reservations, be sure to figure out which LQ you are going to. This property is a multi-story, indoor corridor building while the other one is a two-story, outside-corridor building. The prices between both only differ slightly with this hotel seemingly being the more expensive one (Inn & Suites vs. Inn).
I found my stay to be very good. The hotel is nothing fancy but offers everything you need to rest well and relax. It is clean, has sufficiently large rooms, Wifi and a large television. The rooms have already been upgraded to the recent LQ standard with the new color scheme in place. At the time of my stay the room was still in very good shape. Even though the hotel was fairly full for the night it was very quiet around the area. Being a Returns member this hotel actually remembered to place the additional amenities in my room, contrary to many others...
Since you're likely to be arriving by car, shops and restaurants are in reach, finding something in walking distance is a problem. Driving time to downtown Montgomery is 10 to 15 minutes, so you're sufficiently close to town.
Montgomery is no hot-spot, but for what the LQ is charging you can't do anything wrong. I'd recommend staying without a doubt.
I'm giving the hotel a 4-star rating as 3-stars seems like a negative rating. Actually, I support the overall 3.5 rating in place at the time of writing, it's "good", not "average", not "very good".

We decided to stop at this hotel while traveling from SC to TX. The reviews were pretty good and it said the hotel had renovated the rooms recently. We had our dog with us, so we needed a pet friendly place to stay.
When we pulled up in the parking lot, I'm pretty sure that we witnessed a drug deal....not the best way to start our experience. The front desk clerk was very nice and courteous. He quickly checked us in to a "non-smoking" room on the first floor. When we walked into the room, the cigarette odor hit us like a brick wall. We knew that we could not stand to sleep in this room. The beds were made up, but there were no pillows. The toilet looked like it hadn't been cleaned...it was gross.
We asked the clerk to change rooms and he was apologetic and quickly found us another room. When we walked in to it, it smelled like someone was cooking Indian food in it. The smell was so strong. The bed was made, but you could see grass on the sheets. They were not clean. There was also a large crack underneath the door.
At this point, we decided that we could not stay at this hotel and went back to the front desk. Another couple had just checked in, went to their room, and found that it had never been cleaned.
The staff was nice and helpful, but I would NEVER stay at this hotel. Check out the Drury Inn down the street.....

We stayed here on our way up to Talladega. This was a perfect place to stay over for the night. It was in a convenient location, very clean, and the price was just right. Would definitely stay here again.

We booked this hotel via research with Google Earth. There is this La Quinta Inn on Carmichael Rd and anothe La Quinta on Eastern Blvd. However both those places are adjacent. We went into the one that had the La Quinte "Enter here" sign and were informed that we didn't have a reservation and to check the "other La Quinta" that was just right around behind the restaurant. It is not clear why two adjacent properties carrying La Quinta signs have two distinct entrances and two desks and amenities. Weird.

We got a double. Now, when we opened the door to the right is the sink and mirror. I mean it is just right there. After the door swings open you can see the entrance to the toilet and the shower. The entry basically runs directly through the bathroom. Now how screwed up is that. You had better know your traveling partner cause other than the toilet and shower your whole "mirror routine" is right there out in the open.
