“Let's Do It Again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2010

Wonderful place to spend some quiet, quality time. The home is beautiful, clean and full of character. Lyle is glorious and goes out of her way to make certain that her guests are comfortable and have everything that they need. This was mine and my husbands first bed and breakfast stay and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute. We are looking forward to when we're able to go again!!!

Breakfast service was beautiful and very good.

“Like coming home!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2009

We arrived just about 430 and were met by Lynn in the yard. She explained that we were the only guests that night and there would be people in and out setting up for a wedding reception. She gave us a quick tour of the house and told us some of the history....We were in the Lawley room and the room was large with a clawfoot tub/shower combo. King sized bed was very comfortable with excellent quality bedding. She recommeded
a restaurant named the Fox Valley about 11 miles from the B&B. Food was excellent,
chef was Cajun with the owners from New York. Didn't expect to find that quality cusine
in the middle of nowhere!! Menu changes nightly depending on what's fresh...got back to the B&B about 8pm. We were met in the yard by Trooper the Lab. He's very well behaved and was not trouble at all.....even in the house he behaved and didn't bother you unless you called him...... The smell of coffee woke me that morning and it smelled wonderful. I wasn't dissapointed with the taste..Drank it waiting for breakfast on the swing out front.. Breakfast was wonderfully simple, cheese omelet, ham, fresh fruit, biscuits with coffee, juice or iced water.....In my opinion, it's more than worth the cost of a stay.... even with just one night, I still felt like I was staying with a cousin or family member. I would highly recommend a stay here for simple pleasures.

“Lovely and Hospitable B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2008

We spent three wonderful nights at the McKibbon House B&B. What a warm, welcoming, and lovely experience!

Staying in this large old Victorian is like stepping back in time to another era but with all the modern comforts of today. Each room is unique with an alcove, balcony, or bay window that reflects the house's period architecture. Our bed was very comfortable and the room decorated with lovely old antiques.

We were given such a warm welcome by our host that be the second day of our stay we felt like family members. We found the town of Montevallo charming and fun to explore. This was our first visit to the area and we look forward to returning and staying at the McKibbon House again.

After each wonderful night's sleep in a quiet neighborhood we enjoyed a terrific breakfast. Each morning was different with more than enough to eat. I especially appreciated that the breakfasts were delicious and healthy without too much sugar.

I can recommend the McKibbon House with reservations.

Thanks for a wonderful experience!

“Fabulous B&B!”

Let me start out by saying this is a great place to stay for any event whether it be for a honeymoon, anniversary or just a weekend away from then kids.

Now to give more info about this B&B.

This B&B is located in the heart of Montevallo, Alabama. When you plan your visit here don’t plan on running down the road for some place nice to eat. You won’t find it. This is a college town and what kind of student can afford $30+ per meal. Not mine, I can tell you that. Within a few blocks of this B&B you’ll find your standard college food, McDonalds, Hardees, KFC, Subway along with a few Chinese restaurants and a few BBQ hot spots. If you are looking for better cuisine than this then you will need to drive towards Alabaster or Pelham which is approx. 20-30 minutes away. Calera is close by but I do not know what it has to offer for cuisine. My guess would be about the same as Montevallo. So don’t plan on making your stay at the McKibbon House for fine dining, you will be sorely disappointed.

The McKibbon House is a beautifully restored home with beautiful furnishings. Lyle and Lee Harding have done a wonderful job with this home and I highly recommend this as a place to have a relaxing and restful stay. This was far better than any hotel I’ve been to.

The couple served breakfast promptly at 8:30am each morning and each time there was something different on the menu. Overall I give the cooking an “A” just for the fact it was not fast food and it had wonderful flavor. We were served over the two days we stayed, bacon, link sausage, eggs, cheese grits, pancakes, fresh fruit, biscuits and hash potatoes. Along with this they offer a bottomless amount of coffee and orange juice. They also have milk if you request it.

We stayed in the Lawley Room and the bed was extremely comfortable. This rooms bathing facility is very unique in that there is a claw foot tub in what looks like an existing closet which really added to the rather uniqueness of the room. You basically bathe in your room! If you are shy about taking a bath in front of someone either kick them out of the room or don’t stay in this room and choose one of the other rooms. I really enjoyed this room myself. The only drawback I could see someone might have about the room is the head of the bed is against the wall where the stairs coming up to the second floor is located. This means if you like going to bed early then you may have people wake you up when they come up the stairs. Of course they would have to either stomp a lot or just be inconsiderate. We were in the house with all rooms full and it never bothered us.

Again this is a beautiful home and I recommend it highly!

Thanks for a wonderful stay!

By the way, they do have a dog but it stayed outside the entire time we were there and the temperature stayed on a comfortable 72 degrees. Turning the ceiling fan on actually dropped the room temperature down even further which caused it to be rather chilly.

“Absolutely horrible experience, DO NOT stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2007

We stayed at the McKibbon House Bed and Breakfast in Montevallo on our honeymoon. It was the worst mistake we could have possibly made in choosing this B&B. It is an old house that has been turned into a B&B by 2 sisters. The guest rooms are upstairs and it is extremely hot up there in the middle of July, when we got married. They kept the thermostat turned up so high, we were sweltering in our room the whole time we were there. The only relief we got from the heat was one afternoon when it rained.

They have a huge dog running freely all over the B&B all the time. The dog was constantly underfoot and I was afraid of falling down the stairs because of him every time we went to our room or left to go downstairs. The dog was always at the breakfast table every morning, sitting beside you begging for food. The food they served was not very impressive, either. For the price we paid, I expected a lot better.

The rooms are pretty rundown and they are not very clean, especially the bathrooms. There was a small and I mean SMALL balcony attached to our room. The slope of the balcony floor was going downhill and I was afraid of stepping out there, as it appeared to be a real safety hazzard.

There is also absolutely nothing to do in Montevallo. There are no restaurants, except for a couple of hamburger places and one small Chinese restaurant.

I was very disappointed with this B&B and will never go there again. I would not recommend you waste any money by visiting the McKibbon House B&B. You WILL be disappointed. I wish we had gone to Birmingham or Montgomery, instead of here. It was a total waste of time and money.

The McKibbon House was rated the "Best B&B in the Birmingham Area" by the Birmingham Magazine last year. As a member of the B & B Association of Alabama, it requires a yearly inspection. Our score of 100 (perfect score) was the first ever awarded to a B&B in Alabama. The McKibbon House guest book is filled with page after page of nothing but the highest complimentary comments. We offer wine and cheese served in the late afternoon. Early morning coffee is provided outside your room. A buffet breakfast of fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, potatoes and biscuits is the typical menu.

In 2000 The McKibbon House was fully restored and remodeled within the building codes and historical registry guidelines. The central heat and air thermastat is set at 72 degrees.

I have been the owner for the past two years and never have I had a complaint regarding structural soundness of the home or any remarks of run down and unclean rooms.

We are located in Montevallo, a small college town 35 minutes from Birmingham.

Sincerely,
Lyle Cunningham Lynn
