Unfortunately my family and I had to evacuate from New Orleans, LA because of Hurricane Gustov. I have stayed at numerous Fairfield Inn locations for business and pleasure and thought, before I stayed at this location, that Marriott ran a top notch operation.
I do understand that many evacuees did make their way to this hotel, so things were very hectic. One of the employees told me that she had never seen it so busy. Because of this, I tried to let my incident slide, but in retrospect, myself and my family were not treated as guests, but more so pains in the butt.
First of all, this hotel treats their towels like gold. Don’t expect towels without a hassle. None the less the real problem came when the toilet overflowed. I have been using toilets for 35 or more years and am well aware of the allowable amount of toilet paper a toilet can handle; therefore I’m not taking blame for the overflow. I called the front desk to inform them of the problem and a maintenance man was sent up to rectify this extremely common situation. When the maintenance man arrived I told him that we were sorry for the mess and he said nothing. He proceeded to unstop the toilet and use the towels we were given to clean up the toilet water off of the floor. He then wiped the toilet seat, which he had splashed with toilet water while plunging the toilet, with a toilet water soaked towel. Yummy.
I gave it roughly 30 minutes or so, to see if someone was going to come clean up, mop, the toilet water covered floor and toilet seat, with no such luck. Once again the hotel was busy, so I walked down stairs to see what I could do to get the bathroom back in working order. As I walked down the hallway to the front desk, I overheard the manager and the maintenance man talking about where the water of the floor had come from. The maintenance man said to the manager, “Those S.O.B.’s in room 327 overflowed f***ing the toilet.” I was now about 10 feet from this maintenance man and asked him, “Am I the S.O.B. that you’re referring to?”
Now obviously I was not supposed to overhear this remark, but I did. The manager said nothing to the maintenance man and proceeded to walk towards me. She asked me what the problem was and I proceeded to tell her the story. As we were walking towards the front desk, laughingly, under my breath, I said, “I cannot believe that guy called me an S.O.B.” Immediately, the manager turned around and aggressively approached me and said, “What did you say to me!” I then said, “ I cannot believe your employee called me and my family S.O.B.’s! We didn’t mean to overflow the toilet.” She then proceeded to reprimand me saying that she will not allow me to speak with such vulgar language, in her family run establishment.
To me this sounds a little two faced. Her employee curses me and my family and she does nothing, I repeat what he told me and I get the switch.
There are many other hotels to choose from in this area, do yourself and favor and don’t stay here and by no means use the toilet if you do.
