“Clerk was great, breakfast was good, room could have been cleaner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2011

Found clerk Brianna was a ray of sunshine, after a long day driving. She was friendly, helpful and more then accomodating. Room rate was fair thanks to a travel coupon. Bathroom door in room didn't fit properly, while there was some nastiness which almost looked like termites or a pile of dirt between the fridge and desk in the room. Location is decent for a couple resturants, while easy to get to off the highway. Enjoyed our bite to eat next door at O'Charleys. Breakfast was decent enough, and better then most we had experienced during our trip.

“Dishonest & Rude Staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

I was traveling from North Texas to visit friends and family in Central Florida over the winter holidays. After 12 hours of driving with two young kids, I was ready to retire for the evening. My husband and I normally stay with LQ on long road trips, so I asked him to look up an LQ in the area. He saw that this LQ was about $10 cheaper than the one in Pensacola, so I decided to skip the extra hour of driving and kick up my heels in Mobile. Boy was that a mistake!

When I checked in I was quoted $72 dollars + tax instead of the $55 rate advertised online. I mentioned that we were LQ Returns members, but the front desk clerk told me there were no more "coupon rates." Not wanting to drive anymore I obliged and paid their rip-off rate, especially since there was a Denny's right next door to take the kids to.

In the room, the A/C Heater unit kept turning on and off all night, so I could hardly sleep. There was no shampoo when we took a shower and the bathtub plumbing was clogged. Additionally I noticed stains all over the carpeting. Already upset about being overcharged and not provided the amenities that are standard in a LQ, I took the kids to breakfast, I shouldn't have been surprised that there was little variety in food and that the fruit was unripe. While in the lobby I noticed other customers complaining to the front desk about their horrible stay. The front desk attendant didn't seem to care and she certainly proved it when I also complained about the stay at check-out.

When I complained to the General Manager, he swore up and down that I was not overcharged and offered to make the booking arrangements on my way back to TX. I passed on the offer, because there is no way in my right mind I was going to stay again (even if it were free by some miracle) at this LQ when there are better options in the Gulf region.

Moral of the story: Tack on the extra hour of travel and pay the extra $$ to stay at the LQ in Pensacola. LQ I-65 in Mobile is not worth the money nor the grief.

Sadly, I received better service and prices at the Denny's next door.

“Nice Room; old motel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

The room itself was very nice. The bed was very comfortable. The wireless worked well. The staff was friendly. Breakfast was non-discript, typical junk.
Outside of the bedroom, though, this is an old motel that is not as well maintained as it should be. In need of sprucing up. It's a good value IF you get one of their often-offered special deals. At rack rate, the place wouldn't be worth it.
Not their fault - but highway signage is not too great. Intersection is confusing.
Avoid fueling up at this exit. Prices higher than in a lot of Alabama locations.

“Good hotel for the price. I'd say pretty average quality. Wifi speed was horrible.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is near tons of shops and restaurants and also close to the University (which was why I needed to visit). But then again there are tons of hotels at this locationa anyway.

When I entered the room it smelled nice and the A/C was cooling. The sheets were clean and had no bad smell. The beds were very comfy. The bathroom was clean although the tub was a little akward (mushy) and the bottom of the curtain was a bit moldy. The shower was hot. The toilet was too damn low. The toilet paper sucked. It was frail.

I didn't like the breakfast. They only had juice/coffee but no water!! wtf?

I didn't like that the A/C vents were not adjustable. It's tough to sleep on the bed next ot the a/c.

I didn't like that there were not many TV channels (maybe top 20 national channels)

The wi/fi was worse than 56K speeds at peak times. The connection is shared.

I didn't like that the tv remote was unresponsive at times.

Everything else was ok.

“Poor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

Room smelled bad. No soap. Room adjacent to noisy ice machine. Door lock mechanism finicky. I normally enjoy the La Quinta hotels, but this one was poor.
