I was traveling from North Texas to visit friends and family in Central Florida over the winter holidays. After 12 hours of driving with two young kids, I was ready to retire for the evening. My husband and I normally stay with LQ on long road trips, so I asked him to look up an LQ in the area. He saw that this LQ was about $10 cheaper than the one in Pensacola, so I decided to skip the extra hour of driving and kick up my heels in Mobile. Boy was that a mistake!
When I checked in I was quoted $72 dollars + tax instead of the $55 rate advertised online. I mentioned that we were LQ Returns members, but the front desk clerk told me there were no more "coupon rates." Not wanting to drive anymore I obliged and paid their rip-off rate, especially since there was a Denny's right next door to take the kids to.
In the room, the A/C Heater unit kept turning on and off all night, so I could hardly sleep. There was no shampoo when we took a shower and the bathtub plumbing was clogged. Additionally I noticed stains all over the carpeting. Already upset about being overcharged and not provided the amenities that are standard in a LQ, I took the kids to breakfast, I shouldn't have been surprised that there was little variety in food and that the fruit was unripe. While in the lobby I noticed other customers complaining to the front desk about their horrible stay. The front desk attendant didn't seem to care and she certainly proved it when I also complained about the stay at check-out.
When I complained to the General Manager, he swore up and down that I was not overcharged and offered to make the booking arrangements on my way back to TX. I passed on the offer, because there is no way in my right mind I was going to stay again (even if it were free by some miracle) at this LQ when there are better options in the Gulf region.
Moral of the story: Tack on the extra hour of travel and pay the extra $$ to stay at the LQ in Pensacola. LQ I-65 in Mobile is not worth the money nor the grief.
Sadly, I received better service and prices at the Denny's next door.
