We stayed at the Red Roof Inn North in Mobile Alabama on the first night of a long cross-country move from central Florida to Las Vegas, NV. We had a moving truck, packed, and were pulling a van behind it. The rental company in Florida did NOT properly secure the van's front tires with the straps . . . and the first day of the trip was in driving rain. On Tuesday morning, June 28, 2011, the maintenance man at this motel named Melvin, whose job is to maintain the property, came over to me in the parking lot and asked if he could help. He helped me secure the vehicle properly. He even used his own tools, laid on his back on the pavement and worked up a good sweat and some dirty hands. It gave me much more peace of mind for the rest of a very long, hot journey, much of which was in the mountains in the west. Melvin deserves to be commended for going above and beyond the call of duty, not to mention his job description! I tried to pay him something, but he refused, until I absolutely insisted that he take a few dollars at least for a tip.
