We made a reservation three weeks before our scheduled one-night stay . . . one of us had to go, unexpectedly, on business to Houston instead of taking this quick golf trip to Mobile . . . we called a week ahead of our arrival (as soon as we learned about the Houston trip) to cancel and were told we would be charged $50!! That seemed unfair, but, oh well. BUT, I got my credit card statement and I'd been charged the full $181.26!!!! I called and the owner, a man (Jim, I think) told me that was his policy and that I should call my credit card company if I didn't like it.
Very nasty man! Very unfair policy. It's a trap. And there are so many other wonderful Bed and Breakfast places in Mobile . . . look elsewhere because you can be sure this unfair and distasteful treatment does not begin and end with this episode!
Yes, this is the whole story. We had reservations. We had to cancel (a week in advance). We were told we'd be charged $50. We were charged the entire night's stay, $181.26. We were told "that's the policy, call your credit card company if you don't like it."

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,
It took two years! Finally a bad review! I was having a hard time convincing my friends, not to mention my colleagues that I was not the one writing all these glowing reviews that they read about MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast. It has been two long years since we opened our doors; we have been through a lot and have been truly blessed. We have taken care of over a thousand guests and it is
our goal that each and every person who stays in this magnificent house has a truly unforgettable visit to Mobile and MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast.
The other B and B’s in the Mobile area are exquisite; each is an experience unto themselves. I encourage fellow B and B lovers to spend a weekend at each of the B and B’s in the area and enjoy the experiences at each. Just as each of them created an unique experience at their B and B’s and we in ours, they each have
their own cancellation policy and we have ours. MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast is a 108 year old painted lady in the heart of Historic Church Street East (See National Register of Historic Places). We are in walking distance from all the downtown attractions. We are smack dab in the middle of Mardi Gras just one block off the parade route four times at two different locations. If you would please read the overwhelmingly positive reviews you will understand that MY
Victorian Bed and Breakfast is a destination not a commodity.
We ask that each of our customers consider trip insurance if they are concerned that their plans may change suddenly. For just a few pennies on the dollar all this anger and misunderstanding can be avoided. If you are reading this and trying to decide whether or not to stay at MY Victorian Bed and Breakfast let me give you these words of advice. If you are planning a romantic getaway for you and your significant other, book at least thirty days in advance and insure your trip. We won’t bill you till 14 days in advance but once it is billed; it is bought. We fill up fast in the cooler months, call us in August and we’ll probably come pick you up. If you are traveling on business and are one that enjoys the B and B experience call us a day or two before your trip, chances are unless it’s Mardi Gras, Bayfest, or the School Teachers Mega Conference we’ll have availability.
I realize that this is going on a bit long, but please it’s been two years so it will probably be a while before you hear from me again. While were on the subject of things to be mindful of when booking a room at a bed and breakfast; this is a hundred year old house, if you are the type of person who is looking for the latest in modern facilities this is not the place for you. There are no elevators, no workout room or sauna (unless you count the front porch in July.)
We are enveloped in the most spectacular live oak trees; their majestic beauty is simply breath taking (especially for asthmatics one week in the spring when they release their pollen.) If you are in town on business and think it might be quaint to bring your teenage daughter/son to experience a bed and breakfast please understand that this is a place to relax, unwind, and rejuvenate, all qualities that tend to elude teenagers. We are also a pet friendly establishment; we have two dogs a St. Bernard, Rockwell (most folks just call him Rocky) and the boss of the house a two year old pug named Louise. They live
on the first floor and we have our pet friendly room on the first floor as well. The second floor is off limits to pets. There are four suites on the second floor one of which is setup feather free for persons with allergies, as well.
One closing comment and I will put this response to bed. A 14 day cancellation policy is fair and within industry standards, according to the Professional Association of Innkeepers International (PAII). Innkeepers not only care for their property, they care for you, the guest that stays in their home. Bed and Breakfasts are a special place saved for special people. Those of you who fit this description come see us.
Sincerely,
Jim Maurer (not mean, just fiscally responsible)
